Part 7
"Where have you three been?" Squeaked Professor Flitwick when the twins and Lee entered the charms classroom, where the class were practicing the feather-light charm on old trunks.
"Lee had a nosebleed Professor." Said Fred.
"Yeah, we took him to the Hospital Wing but it stopped so we came back to class." Finished George.
Lee nodded, pulling out a bloody tissue and using it to scrape off some dried blood from his lip.
"Come here." Said Professor Flitwick, making his way over to Lee through the tables and students with his wand held aloft in front of him. He muttered an incantation and the blood disappeared from around Lee's nose. "Now, I should really take some points from Gryffindor for you three being late-"
"Thanks Sir, you really are good at charms. I tried to clean the blood off myself but I just made the bleed worse." Interrupted Lee.
The tiny professor blushed and made his way back through the class, dodging a flying suitcase on his way.
"Sneaky!" Chorused the twins when they had found their seats.
"I learnt from the best." Replied Lee smoothly, leaning back in his chair while grinning at the two twins.
Meanwhile in History of Magic:
"Ron." Hissed Pavarti, nudging her best friend's boyfriend underneath the table with her foot.
"What?" Ron whispered back, slightly dazed from just waking up. He leaned closer towards Pavarti so they could talk without Lavender overhearing.
"Have you made up with Harry yet?" She asked him, getting straight to the point.
"Why?" Snapped Ron, his ears turning red from the mention of his best friend, whom he was still not talking to.
"Look, I know what he did upset you but he's your best friend. You knew that they have liked each other for ages and it was only a matter of time until they got together." Said Pavarti, referring to Harry and Ginny's relationship. Although she wasn't exactly close with Potter, she was a sucker for romance and she hated that Ron and fallen out with them because of it. And although she wouldn't admit it, Pavarti secretly wanted Ron to make up with Hermione as well. She always knew that they had feelings for each other and over the past week, she noticed that Ron seemed to be getting slightly annoyed with Lavender's clingy pestering. Lavender was her best friend, and she would never go behind her back or hurt her, but they just didn't go well together. She wanted Lavender to be happy and although she loves Ron, she needs to find someone who would love her back with the same amount of devotion.
"You're right." Sighed Ron. "Thanks Pavarti." He said, before turning around to get Harry's attention.
"Harry." He whisper-shouted, gently prodding him in the back with his quill.
Harry turned around, slightly surprised to see Ron with a sheepish expression on his face.
"Look mate," he started awkwardly. He noticed that Hermione had paused in her note-making to listen in. He took a deep breath. "Don't you dare hurt her." He said. Harry's face broke into a huge smile but before he could reply, Ron interrupted. "Just- just don't let me see you snogging my sister in front of me, alright?"
Harry turned back around in his seat. He was still grinning. Ron hadn't exactly apologised for the way he reacted but to Harry, it didn't matter. His best friend approved of his relationship and that meant more than Quidditch to him.
Ron suddenly realised how much he had missed Harry. Even if it was less then 12 hours since the argument, he missed having his best friend around. But he still felt that there was something missing. Ever since he started dating Lavender, he was never being constantly nagged about his homework and at first he enjoyed it, but now he missed Hermione's constant moaning. The way she said his full name when she was mad at him "Ronald Weasley!" amused him more than anything. He hated the pet name Lavender had given him "Won Won." It made his feel stupid. Yes, Hermione made him feel stupid with her knowledge and intelligence, but that was a different kind of stupid.
"Hermione-" he started. He didn't know what he was going to say, or how he was going to say it.
But Hermione didn't get the chance to reply as suddenly, a small, brown, barn owl flew right through the open window. It landed lightly on her desk and stuck out its leg where a small pink parcel was attached with a baby blue ribbon.
"Wha-" she mumbled, the sudden arrival of the owl startling her.
"I think it's for you." Whispered Harry. By this time, the whole class had turned to see what was going on. This was much more interesting than anything Professor Binns had to say. He could make Quidditch boring with his droning voice and his endless lectures.
Hermione reached forward and untied the ribbon with fumbling fingers.
Ron watched, his jaw set.
As soon as the parcel hit the desk, the owl took off and flew out the window again. Professor Binns, as oblivious to the rest of his class as ever, hadn't noticed that no one was listening to him.
"Open it then!" Encouraged a Hufflepuff girl.
Hermione gently peeled back the gift wrap. It was a light pink, with gold swirls for detail. Inside was another box: this time black with red hearts. She slowly undid the clasp. Inside were an array of heart-shaped chocolates. Stuck to the lid was a small slip of parchment, which she pulled out and opened.
The note was simple, written in gold ink:
Hermione,
There are more to come.
She turned the note around in her fingers, looking for a signature but there was none. Not even an initial; some form of indication as to who sent the mysterious present. There are more to come. It had said. What does that mean? Will the mysterious sender be sending more chocolates?
She could feel Ron staring at her; his eyes were burning through the back of her head. She slipped the note into her pocket where her fingers brushed the party invitation. Maybe this person was going to invite her to the party?
"Do you know who sent it?" Asked Lavender excitedly. Hermione turned around, and to Harry's surprise, she was smiling.
"No, but the note said that there was more to come." She replied, noticing how Ron's ears went red and smiling wider.
I'm not sure I like this chapter that much. I spent a while thinking about the overall storyline and I came up with this idea. Let me know what you think!
