Today, Merry and I were out walking in the Eastfarthing Woods, having a friendly conversation. The sky was a bright shade of blue; the sun was shining through the tops of the tall elm trees. The air was filled with the sweet and cheerful melodies of birds. It was truly a beautiful day to be outside.

All of a sudden, Merry stopped walking and turned to face me. He placed both of his large hands on my shoulders and grinned smugly. "Merry, why did we stop?" I asked, in bewilderment.

Merry let out a little chuckle. He scanned me with his curious light blue eyes and started circling around me like an innocent puppy that was begging its owner to play fetch.

"Merry, what are you doing?" I asked. I grew anxious. I'd never seen Merry behave in such a way before. What was he up to?

Merry stood behind me and folded his arms over my waist. Then, he rested his chin over my right shoulder. "You are too cute, Brianna." He flirted. "You do know that right?"

I was taken aback. I had a difficult time coming up with the right words to say. Merry asked me if I knew that I was cute. Too cute. I don't really see myself as cute. I see myself as a normal teenage girl. There isn't anything spectacular or amazing about me. I'm just average.

I looked down at my feet and chuckled nervously. "Um, I...I don't know, Merry." I stuttered. "I wouldn't call myself cute."

"I would." Said Merry. He paused for a moment to think about what he had just said. Instead of complimenting me, he ended complimented himself.

"Wait a moment

"Wait a moment. Did I just call myself 'cute'?" Merry pondered. "I mean, I am a handsome hobbit, but I'm not cute. What I meant to say was that I knew that Bri was cute." Merry sighed and shook his head, in frustration. "Goodness, now I feel like I made a fool out of myself!"

I thought that Merry was acting strange. "Merry, is everything alright?" I asked, timidly. "Why did you shake your head? Did I do something wrong? Is everything alright?"

"I-I-I-I'm fine. I'm fine." He stammered. "Just fine. Y-you obviously didn't do anything wrong."

"Oh, Well, that's good, I guess." I said. "But, I don't understand. Why are you acting all strange, Merry? Are you not feeling well?"

"Acting strange? I'm not acting strange. I'm feeling fine. I'm not sick at all. Not at all. I was just thinking about how...how...you're so beautiful...and...and...cute...." Merry started fumbling around with his words and scratching at his curls while he was talking, which made things really awkward. He even almost tripped over his feet.

Merry let out a loud sigh. "I'm sorry, Brianna. At first, I was tryin' to tell you that you cute, then it came out the wrong way." He shrugged his shoulders. "I hope you'll forgive me for actin' like a blockhead."

I smiled. "Oh, It's alright, Merry. I forgive you. Sometimes I have trouble with my words, too. I understand. You're not a blockhead. It's alright."

"I still feel like I should make it up to you, somehow." Insisted Merry.

"How?" I asked. "You didn't do anything wrong."

All of a sudden, Merry moved forward and gave me a soft, tender kiss on my cheek. "There." He said. "Now, I made it up to you. I hope that will make everything better. Has it?"

I pressed my hand up against my cheek, where Merry had kissed and chuckled nervously. "Y-yes, it...it did make everything better. Oh my gosh."

Merry laughed and hugged me tightly. "I'm glad it did! Oh, Brianna, you're too cute! Too cute!"
