If I know my facts right, Holy Roman Empire is Prussia's older brother. Due to spreading of power and breaking apart, HRE was dissolved. Though he was supposedly killed by France.
Prussia was heartbroken and lived on for his older brother. But at the remaining land of HRE, Prussia found Germany.
Germany grew up to what Prussia wanted to be but supported Prussia since he dissolved. It's said that if a part of a country 'merges' with his/her half then they will both live until one of them dies. Since Germany is alive so that means Prussia is also alive.
That same goes for the Italy brothers. One goes down, the other comes with it.
Fun fact: Germany is younger than Italy
