Chapter Nineteen
"Good afternoon everyone, this is your pilot captain Han. I just want to welcome you on board the flight 362 from Incheon airport to London Heathrow. The flight will be 11 hours and 30 minutes long so please try and get as comfortable possible. In case of any emergencies please exit...." The pilot's voice continued to burst out of the overhead intercom. Once he was done, Rebekka took a deep sigh and sunk back into her chair. It hard been a long 5 days that she could feel even the last shreds of energy threaten to leave her body. In attempt to relax herself, she threw her head back onto the chair and closed her puffy eyes while going over everything that had happened since she had received that dreaded letter.
A lot of things had happened but what she was most grateful for was the enormous support she had received from her mum and all her friends, especially Min woo. Till now she was still surprised at how amazing and understanding he had been. After that afternoon when she had fallen asleep on his lap at his house, Bekka had woken up to find herself in her own bed. She had felt perplexed at how she had ended up in her room. Only for her mum to tell her that Min woo had called her and arranged to drop her off because he felt that it would be best and more comforting if Bekka woke up in familiar surroundings considering that she had experienced enough change. Bekka's heart had warmed up at his thoughtfulness as she remembered saying something similar to him when he had offered her strong coffee at his house.
Min woo thoughtfulness didn't stop there as he had made sure that he called every day to check up on her. At first Bekka had been a bit apprehensive because she kept thinking that he might suddenly go back to his old-self, but after two days of speaking to the "new and nicer" Min woo, he had managed to make her let her guard down- a bit. Most of their conversations consisted of him making sure she was fine and not suppressing any feelings that would bring her down. Of course most times she would swear she was fine and he would drop the topic but that only worked a couple of times because the third time Min woo had insisted that she was not fine. And he had refused to go off the phone for over an hour until she had conceded and broken down while on the phone to him. She had been going through all the boxes and draws in her room as she tried to tidy up her room place as clearing up had always had a therapeutic effect on her whenever she couldn't seem to get her feelings in check. It's like by putting everything around her in order, would automatically make her feelings somehow fall into place. But this time, as she rummaged through her storage wardrobe, she had found the bag that had the two cups with the cartoon Korean girls she had intended to give to Rona. Right then, she had felt her heart constrict in her chest like the first time she had read that letter. Bekka had tried to be strong and lock up her emotions but listening to Min woo's insistent voice over the phone ,filled with so much care and concern had stripped her of her last resolve to keep up her pretence.
Following her break down, Min woo had comforted her on phone but because he was at work, he had called Mi-hi and told her to go to Rebekka's house to make sure she was fine. Bekka and Mi-hi had spent all of Monday eating pizza and ice cream and watching every romantic movie ever released. It been a fun day and spending time with Mi-hi had taken Bekka's mind off Rona's death for a few hours but immediately, Mi-hi had left the emptiness had comeback full force. However once again, thank God for family, because Bekka's mum had quickly stepped in and tried to keep her daughter as occupied as possible by asking her to help out in the kitchen as she prepared dinner.
Sunday morning, Bekka's mum had called Rona's mum and dad to ask about the burial arrangements after Rebekka had told her that she didn't trust herself to speak to them without breaking down. Rona's parents had been understanding- in fact they were really worried about how was coping- and they had told her mum that the burial was on Thursday. That meant that she had to be in England by Wednesday. Originally, Rebekka was supposed to go with her mother but a few hours before their flight, Ms Daniel had received a call from the company telling her that an amazing deal had come up that the company couldn't turn down and because it was very important, they needed her to deal with it as she was one of the best employees the company had. Ms Daniels had tried to get out of it but not matter what she said, her boss didn't barge. She was told that in fact it was the president who had given the order and he wasn't about to change his mind. In the end, Bekka had decided to make things easier for her mum and opted to go alone. The older woman had insisted that it wasn't right and tried over and over again to get in contact with the president but was told numerous times that he was unavailable. In the end Rebekka had boarded flight 362 on her own. Not because her mum had conceded, but because Bekka had all but blackmailed her emotionally. Claiming that if her mum lost her job because of her then she would never forgive herself. It wasn't that big a threat now that she looked back but it was the best Bekka could come up with at the time. Thankfully it had worked.
