Becoming a woman

Annie was putting the finishing touches on her new dress. Megan and I were doing last minute alterations to ours. We weren't going to see the guys today since we were doing last minute dress fixing. Our dresses were of the new style from France.

The new style of dress is very elegant, we choose this new style to be first of it's kind. The dress was completely different than your regular hoop skirted dress. The fullness in the skirt was moved to the rear of the dress. Where it was elaborately draped overskirt was held in place by tapes. And of course no more hoops to worry about, it only needed a bustle. The underskirts on our dresses were heavily trimmed with rouching and frills.

Our necklines were cut low and set off the shoulders. We paired it with our new gloves, and we were amazed at the dresses we were going to wear to the party. We decided to pile our hair in ringlets, and have matching ribbons and babies breath in our hair. Annie was impressed that we made it come together with ease.

Megan and I giggled as we added the last of the rouching to the bottom of the dress. We couldn't wait for them to see us in our dresses. They weren't going to be able to keep their hands off of us. We smiled to each other as we thought of that. Megan was in a hot spot too, she wanted David to be closer. But our luck it seems we have to always wait, cause neither one wanted to go that far.

Jake and David were pacing the floor going crazy waiting til it was time to pick us up for the dance at city hall. They decided to go to bed early before they got on a horse and rode across the lane. This is harder than they expected, what is all this waiting good for? Luke didn't care about anything but his belly. Luke whined" when are we going to eat?"

They both looked at him" we don't know we didn't cook anything."

Luke shook his head" those girls have gone to your heads, I need food I am going to Grandma's and get some food."

Jake and David looked at him and each other" hey we are coming with you." So all three guys went over to Annie's place looking for some food.

Annie got up from her rocker as she heard a wagon coming down the drive. She noticed it was the boys, they must be hungry or just couldn't stay away. Most likely both, " oh ladies you have gentlemen callers, if you don't want them to see your dresses you better put them out of sight!"

She heard the slight sound of running feet and closing doors. She laughed " I hope you were finished with those because you aren't going to have time tomorrow."

Megan giggled " we are, we were just finishing the last bit of sewing."

I came down the stairs and kissed my Grandma on the cheek " those boys just couldn't stay away for one night."

Annie laughed" yep they have it bad, I remember when your mother would have suitors."

I smiled" I love to hear you tell me stories about those days."

Annie smiled" it was a long time ago, and I am lucky cause I get to do it all over again with you."

I hugged her " Thank you Grandma, I wouldn't want to miss this part of life at all.''

Megan came running down the stairs" the dresses are well hidden in our closets."

I laughed " well I am sure that they wouldn't be venturing up there anyways."
