After they had finished packing up the rundown cabin, they headed back to the farm. Annie was smiling at the two lovebirds beside her. Jake loved her granddaughter very much, and Lizzie loved him very much too. She knew he was in store for a punishment that only her granddaughter could inflict. She was a chip off the old block, she reminded of Annie so many years ago when she was that young. Annie was a beauty in her own right, she had many beau's in her day. But only one captured her heart, Patrick Butler.
He was the most handsome man who ever walked the earth. He never gave her the time of day. But Annie fixed that, soon they were married and he built the cabin on the property, with the promise of a much bigger house in the future. Annie didn't care if she had a mansion, as long as she had her Patrick. She regaled the story to the two love birds about her past. Patrick came from a wealthy family in the north. Annie herself had come from a family of wealth. For one the Carson family owned the rights to the town.
So when Patrick came to town he was trying to make his own way in the world. He came from old money that dated all the way back to Great Britian. He wanted to explore the country, he wasn't looking to settle down. He had escaped from a society where he was required to find a debutante and marry her and produce an heir. He ran away so he could prosue his dreams, not live someone one elses. So he jumped on a train and took it to the first town he came to, far enough from the world he had just came from.
Patrick walked to the town of New Springs, he liked what he saw and stayed. He started working at the bank. It wasn't long before he saw a very beautiful blonde girl walk by carrying a picnic basket. He fell in love, until he saw all of her suitors trailing behind. He was surprised that she didn't have the whole town after her. She was a beauty that would make an debutante jealous back home. But what could he do? She wouldn't even notice him.
Annie laughed as she remembered how he told her so long ago. Patrick would join in all the fun of the hay rides and winter balls. Annie would watch as the dashingly handsome stranger would stare at her. Until one of her suitors came up to chat with her. Then he would have a scowl on his face. Annie was the one who broke the ice with him. She walked over and introduced herself to him. After that moment when there eyes met, that was all she wrote.
They were inseperable from that moment on. So when Annie's father consented for them to be married. They were married in the spring, and the cabin was done by fall. Annie by that time was 5 months pregant. Everything was going great, everything was perfect. Till one day her world changed, Her Patrick, went up the mountain to go hunting with the men. Well it was a freak accident, Patrick was accidently shot.
He died before they could get him to a doctor. But before he died he made them promise to take care of his Annie. He asked that they built the house he had drawn up. He asked that they tell her he loved her and he would be waiting for her in heaven. Annie flicked a tear as she continued.
When they brought his body back, they went to her father's house first. Then they came to break the news to her. Her mother came to take care of her those horrible days. Annie wouldn't eat or sleep she wanted to die, she couldn't live without him. She finally woke up and decided to live for her child. She kept going just for the child who would never know it's father. How could this happen to them? What was going to happen to them?
After his death his parents came down for his funeral. They decided that they wanted to get to know their grandchild when it was born. The only problem, they didn't like Annie. Oh she was pretty enough, but she wasn't blue blooded enough for them. After Larissa was born they left a hefty check, and left to return as if nothing happened. Annie swore that she would never ask them for anything.
She raised her daughter to be a strong independant woman. Of course Larissa was just as beautiful as Annie was, if not more. Larissa fell in love with a boy who lived in the next town over. So what happened when the talk of war was upon them. She took her husband and newborn baby girl out west. Annie wouldn't leave, she was all that was left of her family. She believed that if it was her time to go, she was ready to go and be with her Patrick. But instead their daughter joined him first, well it will give them a chance to get to know each other.
