The next day Hatori let himself into the house. It was dead quiet as he walked into the hallway. He thought the house looked really gloomy now that it was empty. Hatori walked into the living room and spotted the garden table and chairs that looked out of place. The air was stale from all the doors and windows being shut and Hatori walked over to the glass doors leading out to the garden and opened them. Then he walked up to the main bedroom to see if Mimi was there, but it was empty. Hatori checked the other rooms and when he found no sign of Mimi, he knew she was probably in her office.
As he walked down to the office he suddenly felt sad at the state of things. They had been truly happy in this house a long time ago, and thinking about all the events that happened to tear them apart made Hatori feel guilty for letting Natsume talk him into taking everything from Mimi. Hatori turned the doorknob to Mimi's office door but it was locked. Hatori knocked on the door a few times then heard how frightened Mimi was when her voice shook as she said, "Who is it, How did you get in this house?"
Hearing how scared she was made Hatori feel guilty for just letting himself in, "Mimi it's me Hatori," he quickly replied.
"Uh... Give me a minute Hatori." Mimi said then she pulled the chair from the door and unlocked it and turned the left side of her face away as she opened the door.
"What do you want Hatori?" Mimi asked.
"I just came to tell you the movers will be here shortly to return all the furniture and I have put back all the money in the accounts," Hatori said.
Hatori hadn't seen Mimi in about a week but he could tell she had lost a lot of weight. Normally her skin was pink and it had a lovely glow, now it was very pale and the glow had vanished.
"Thank you Hatori just tell them to put the stuff where ever. Was that it then?'' Mimi said backing up into the office and shutting the door.
Hatori put his hand out to stop the door then said "No that's not it, because of you and Shigure I have been ordered to come down here and see what was done to you. By the look of things, you look fine; a black eye and a cut on your lip. I don't see why my father was making such a big deal."
Mimi opened the door and said coldly, "Oh is that so then as far as you're concerned this is nothing but a nuisance. Well, let me help get your father off your case."
Mimi pulled back her hair and turned her face so he could see everything. Then Mimi lifted her top up so he could see the bandages then let it drop again. "There job done. Now you can go." Mimi put her hand back on the door to push it shut and Hatori grabbed it.
He was mortified at the state of Mimi and the disgust and guilt started to make him feel sick and he asked, "Who did this to you?"
''Do you really care Hatori?" Mimi snapped at him.
"Of course I do Mimi." Hatori genuinely replied.
"Then maybe you should ask your monkey who her organ grinder is, if you really want an answer. Now let me go." Mimi said trying not to shout at Hatori.
"Natsume had nothing to do with this. You're crazy if you think I'm going to believe that." Hatori replied as he let go of Mimi.
"Fine I don't care what you believe; but ask yourself why was there no damage to the front door; and why is it that I know you were with Natsume when Isamu died." Mimi wanted to punish Hatori for being such a fool. "He let himself in with your keys," Mimi shouted.
Hatori didn't want to hear any more of this nonsense and turned to leave; Mimi softened and grabbed his arm then said "I'm sorry. Please don't leave Hatori. I promise I'll be a good wife and do whatever you want, just don't leave."
Hatori stopped, turned and gently pulled Mimi's hand off of him and said "Mimi it is over between us. I'm not going to come back." He looked at Mimi with sad eyes then walked out.
Mimi broke down all over again. She knew she should move on but for some reason she couldn't. All she wanted was to get Hatori back.
Mimi was lucky by the time the movers came Yoshi had turned up and was able to tell them where everything was to go. Mimi stayed in her office sobbing uncontrollably.
