When they got back to the house Mimi unpacked the food and started cooking dinner while Hatori watched her. Mimi was curious about what Hatori had been up to since she left Tokyo.
"So tell me Hatori, what have you been doing since I left Tokyo?" Mimi could see he was a little reluctant to say anything so Mimi said "It's okay if you had girlfriends or flings we aren't together anymore. I can assure whatever you say won't hurt me."
"I have dated a few people but it never felt right and I have been travelling to America and Europe for work. So that has taken up a lot of my time." Hatori sighed then said "Recently I've been back home in Mito and my mother and I have patched things up. She even apologised for her part in ruining our marriage."
Mimi was happy when she heard this. When Hatori left and Jinpachi attacked her, she blamed Kyoko for a long time. Now Mimi had realised she was more to blame then Kyoko, because if Mimi had loved Hatori and not pushed him away, then their marriage would have been strong enough to overcome temptation.
"That's good that you patched things up with Kyoko. Despite everything that happened, I know she was only doing what she thought was best for you."
Mimi put the dinner on the plates and then walked over to the table and set the plates down. "You know I'm envious of you Hatori. At least your mother loves you so much she is willing to do crazy things for you." Mimi said and smiled that she was even saying that she was envious of him having Kyoko as a mother.
Hatori looked at Mimi. He couldn't understand how she didn't still hold a grudge against Kyoko. "How can you forgive my mother after everything she did to you?" Hatori asked.
Mimi started to eat as she was trying to find the right words "I was angry for a long time but in the end I had to open my eyes and take some of the blame."
Mimi looked at Hatori and decided it was time to tell him about Shigure without telling him it was Shigure. "I know I married you too quickly when I shouldn't have and because of that I pushed you away."
Hatori scrunched his forehead up then asked, "What do you mean you married me too quickly?"
"I had doubts and I had feelings for someone else, but I thought those feelings I had were just a mistake so I ignored them. I truly did love you back then, I still do but I never gave us one hundred percent and I am sorry for that." Mimi looked down at her plate because she couldn't bring herself to look at Hatori.
Hatori had a tight grip on his cutlery. It hurt him to hear Mimi say this to him but deep down he had always suspected this was the case. Hatori took a deep breath and said "We both messed things up. It's in the past now and doesn't really matter but thank you for telling me."
Hatori got up and walked over to Mimi knelt down next to her and lifted her face towards him. He ran his finger down the length of the faint scar that ran down her jaw. "I am so sorry for what happened to you and how appallingly I acted. If I could take it back I would, I regret how I left things."
Mimi put her hand on his then said "Please stop. I've put that behind me and there really is no point stirring all that up. Jinpachi's still a bastard in my books but I have forgiven him." Mimi saw Hatori's face was a mixture of shock and anger when she told him she forgave Jinpachi, and then said, "Honestly what's the point of holding a grudge. What's done is done. No amount of anger is going to change it and I wanted to move on so I forgave him. It doesn't mean I want anything to do with him. It just means I've let it go."
"You're a lot stronger these days. I know I have no right to ask but would you let me see the scars." Hatori asked.
Mimi nodded, then stood up reached behind her and unzipped her dress and let it fall to the floor. "As you can see my bikini wearing days are over but all in all everything healed well and the scars have faded a lot." Mimi joked trying to lighten things for Hatori.
Hatori gently touched each scar, and then he pulled Mimi's dress back up, zipped it for her and said "Thank you for letting me see them."
Mimi looked at Hatori as he sat back down. He had really changed and she saw so much of the man she fell in love with when she was nineteen in him now. It made her heart ache a little thinking about what could have been if she had given them the chance she should have eight years ago when they got married.
Hatori looked straight into Mimi's eyes then said "I meant what I said the last time I came here. I still love you and I want to start over again with you. Only this time I want to give things a real chance. We were truly happy the first year we were together before all the bull shit with my family started. I think we can have that again and all I'm asking is that we try again."
Mimi thought to herself "Shigure has moved on, and there is no chance of me and him ever getting back together now that he is getting married. Without Shigure in the picture maybe we really can work."
Mimi smiled and said "I would like that very much Hatori."
