...April twelfth...
After banging on the door for two minutes Ritsu let herself in. The moment she opened the door Ritsu was horrified as The Gazete's The invisible wall was playing loudly on the speakers and she saw Mimi laying on the floor where she was attacked looking like a wild animal and laughing a soft hollow laugh. Ritsu frowned, then walked over to the control panel on the wall by the front door and punched in the command to turn off the music. Then Ritsu marched over to Mimi without taking her shoes off and looked down at her and said, "What the HELL are you doing Mimi? This is so beyond messed up." Ritsu grabbed Mimi's arms and yanked her up and dragged her out of the house and into Ritsu's car.
Mimi couldn't stop quietly laughing the whole car ride and Ritsu was terrified for her friend. Ritsu kept rerunning what she had just witnessed over and over in her head and kept thinking 'That is just... it's just...so...What Mimi was doing was just.' Ritsu breathed out the last word and it was barely audible "Sick." In all the time Ritsu knew Mimi and all of the stuff she had witnessed Mimi go through Ritsu had never seen Mimi act like that and Ritsu was terrified that her best friend had finally cracked.
Ritsu pulled the car into the multi story car park that was next to a beautiful high rise building that looked like it was made entirely out of glass in Meguro. Ritsu dragged Mimi out of the car, Mimi was still quietly laughing like a mad woman. Mimi was in a green track suit with a yellow stripe down the side of the legs and arms and was three sizes too big and her hair was in need of a brush. Ritsu couldn't help but think that Mimi really did look like one of those mad women that roamed the parks talking to themselves, laughing at their demons that they were too weak to fight off.
Mimi continued to laugh all the way up to the fourteenth floor right up to the point when they walked through the door of the office of Ochiai Hina M.D. Ph.D. physiatrist. Mimi's face slowly hardened and turned cold as the realisation hit her that Ritsu had dragged her to a shrink. Mimi thought, 'how dare she drag me to a damn quack like I'm some sort of a nut case!' Something inside Mimi snapped and she glared at Ritsu then she hissed, "How dare you."
Ritsu could instantly tell Mimi was furious and said, "Calm down Mimi I just think you..."
Mimi shouted, "You don't get to think!"
There wasn't anyone in the waiting room to Ritsu's relief but both ladies that were working behind the desk stopped what they were doing and stared at the two of them.
"Mimi please: you are my best friend and I'm worried." Ritsu said in a calm soft voice.
"Some best friend you are! If you think I am just going to quietly go along with this and not make a scene you have another thing coming!" Mimi shouted even louder.
Doctor Ochiai walked out into the waiting room and she smiled warmly at Mimi and Ritsu then said calmly "Why don't we take this into my office. It's much more comfortable in there than it is out here and we can talk."
Mimi couldn't believe that she was getting railroaded by the two women and was not going to stand for it. Ritsu didn't care if Mimi hated her after this. Her only concern was getting Mimi help. She grabbed Mimi's arm and dragged her into Dr. Ochiai's office.
Mimi sat down on the soft brown sofa and folded her arms and looked out the window. She thought: 'You can't shrink me if I don't talk. Ha let's see how the good quack likes those apples.'
Dr. Ochiai said gently to Mimi "Mimi-san your friend Ritsuko-san is very worried about you and how you are coping with what has happened to you."
Mimi continued to stare out the window not saying, a word. She was seething with anger.
After five minutes of sitting in silence Ritsu had enough and said "Mimi what you were doing was just... It was just so wrong."
Mimi turned her head and glared at Ritsu, Mimi could feel her blood start to boil. Deep down Mimi knew Ritsu was right but Mimi was not about to let Ritsu judge her.
"Now Ritsuko-san we don't judge here and in reality it's all a matter of perspective and degrees. What one person perceives as wrong could be perfectly acceptable in another person's eyes."
Ritsu blinked at Dr. Ochiai and thought: 'No, what Mimi was doing was just sick and Mimi needs to face it.' Then Ritsu said, "but Mimi was laying in the spot where she was attacked with the rug rolled up laying in the middle of her dried blood that stained the floor listening to the music that was playing when that bastard did that to her." Ritsu pointed to Mimi's cuts then disgust took hold on Ritsu's face as she said, "Mimi was touching her lips the way you would touch them when remembering a kiss. And..." Ritsu could barely bring herself to say it "It seemed like Mimi was enjoying herself."
Mimi had been found out and even though Ritsu was only partially right. Mimi was only enjoying the feeling of being alive not remembering how Jinpachi forced himself into her mouth. Mimi was not about to let anyone let alone her best friend judge her. "Who the hell do you think you are!" Mimi roared. "You drag me down to this crackpot's office so you can what, tattletale on me." Mimi paused then stood up walked to Ritsu and said "Give me my keys." Mimi thrust her hand in Ritsu's face. When Ritsu didn't do anything Mimi said "Give me my God damn keys you bitch. After today I don't want to see or hear from you again."
Ritsu started to cry even though she knew Mimi was just lashing out and didn't mean it. It still hurt. Ritsu slowly took Mimi's keys off her key chain and handed them to her, then said "Please Mimi, don't do this. I'm sorry. I was only trying to help."
"Help who...yourself; because you sure as hell aren't helping me. Just leave me alone and another thing you can tell your father to stop sending me those cheques. I don't want his God damn blood money!"
Mimi turned to Dr. Ochiai "I'd like to say it was a pleasure but I won't. Sorry good doctor you won't be shrinking me today." Then Mimi started to walk to the door.
Dr. Ochiai said, "Mimi –san I am always here Ritsuko-san has booked this time slot for you every day of the week except Sunday. So when you are ready I will be here even if you just want to sit in silence."
When Mimi left Dr. Ochiai said to Ritsu "Mimi-san is not ready to face anything yet. She is still very confused and angry, and unfortunately we tend to take out our frustration and anger out on the ones we love. Don't take what she said or did to heart. We can't force Mimi to do anything she doesn't want to do. The healing process does not work that way. Don't worry Ritsuko-san Mimi will be back. Call it a gut feeling I got from her. Until then if there is someone else that can keep an eye on her it would be a good idea to ask them to do that. For the time being I think it is best if you two give each other some space."
