Mimi had returned home a defeated woman and despite all of Reis's efforts Mimi was content with staying at home watching anime and cheesy dramas and listening to Florence and the Machine's Hurricane Drunk and Scott Mathew's Every Traveled Road on a continuous loop and feeling sorry for herself. Mimi didn't even care that it was April and the cherry trees were in bloom. It made Izu stunning and was something Mimi had wanted to see since she moved to Izu.
The door bell rang and Mimi slowly got off the sofa and walked to the door. She figured it was Rei again and was in no hurry to answer it. When Mimi opened the door and saw it was Hatori she gave him a weak smile and said "long time no see Hatori; what brings you all the way down here?"
Hatori looked at Mimi's scruffy appearance, and said "Have you been burning the candle at both ends? You look terrible."
Mimi walked out on the porch and said "Yeah I guess you could say that. Anyway how have you been?"
"Look Mimi, I have been trying to get a hold of you for the last few days. Have you thrown out your phone or something?" Hatori asked.
"No I just haven't been in the mood to talk to anyone so I unplugged it. What is so important that you had to come all the way down here?" Mimi said not really interested in the answer because all she wanted to do was go back inside and lick her wounds.
Hatori was not sure how to tell Mimi what he had been tasked with telling her and he was also concerned with how much she had changed from the last time they had met. So he said, "I don't know where to start. Maybe you should get your boyfriend to come out first."
Mimi looked at Hatori funny and said "We are not together any more. Long story, don't want to talk about it. So come on, just spit whatever it is out Hatori"
"I guess I should give you the bad news first." Hatori took Mimi's hand then said "I am sorry but your dad died last month. Your mother only informed me three days ago. The heartless old hag said there was no need to tell you sooner because you were not welcome at the funeral."
Mimi looked at Hatori. She didn't know how to feel. It had been so long since her dad told her he didn't want anything to do with her. Mimi was hurt because her mother still hated her so much so, to leave her out of the funeral. That was as far as her feelings went.
"And the other news," Mimi said looking out at the road.
"Well, Shigure and his girlfriend are getting married at the end of May," Hatori replied.
Mimi was crushed when she heard this and everything started to spin. Mimi felt her body grow very heavy and the light started to go dark. Hatori caught Mimi as she fainted and carried her into the house. When Mimi woke up Hatori was sitting next to her holding her hand.
"I'm sorry Mimi; I should have made you sit down before I told you about your dad." Hatori handed Mimi his handkerchief so she could dry her eyes because she had been crying while she was unconscious.
Mimi didn't want Hatori to know she was upset because Shigure was getting married and said, "That's okay Hatori, thank you for bringing me inside. I'm sure you have to get going I'll be fine."
"Mimi stop trying to act strong in front of me. You forget, I know you better than that and I m not going to leave you when you're like this.'' Hatori grabbed Mimi and gave her a hug.
Mimi started to sob and no matter how much she tried to stop herself she couldn't stop crying. "I'm sorry Hatori. I'll be fine in a moment." Mimi managed to get out.
"Don't be silly I will always be here for you when you need me." Hatori reassured Mimi.
