September rolled in and Rei had to go back to school; Mimi found herself at a loss because Rei's constant presence was no longer around to distract Mimi. She had finished writing the last of her books and after she finished the minor adjustments she had nothing to do but sit and think. It was Friday the twenty second of September. Mimi had been going through the boxes that had old photos of her and her life in Tokyo. Mimi was in the mood to torture herself, so she was picking out all the pictures of her and Shigure, the weather was still hot so Mimi had decided to do this in the back garden.
Mimi really loved the garden. It was full of plants and it felt warm and cosy like her own secret hideout where she could shut out the world. Mimi was lost in her thoughts and crying over all of the mistakes she made concerning Shigure; when Rei popped her head over the hedge that separated their gardens. Rei saw all the pictures surrounding Mimi and Mimi hunched over them and Rei thought this was odd behaviour even for Mimi. Rei had caught Mimi crying before and figured it was because she was sad about her divorce so Rei never really pried. Even though it went against her nature. Rei figured it was something Mimi wanted to keep to herself, but this time Rei decided to ask Mimi what was going on because she could tell Mimi was in a lot of pain.
Rei let herself into Mimi's garden and walked up to her and asked "What's wrong honey? Do you really think it's a good idea to be pouring over all of these pictures of your ex-husband?"
Mimi looked up at Rei with her tear soaked eyes and tried to smile but couldn't manage it then replied "Technically Hatori is still my husband." Mimi wiped her eyes then continued as she talked about the picture she was holding "He is not Hatori." Mimi stuck her hand in the box of photos and pulled out one of Hatori "This is Hatori" Mimi handed the picture to Rei.
Rei could not believe how handsome Mimi's husband was "Wow what a looker." Rei said.
Mimi then said holding out the picture she had been holding ''This guy is Shigure. He is Hatori's cousin and he is the man that I'm in love with."
Rei looked at Mimi, and then at the picture of Shigure. She thought he was also a very handsome man. ''Oh I think I understand. So what is it, a case of unrequited love?" Rei asked.
Mimi sniggered then replied "If only it were that simple. No the fact is Shigure loves me as well. I knew I was marrying the wrong man when I married Hatori but stupid me did not want to cause all the hurt and unset that would have happened if I had chosen Shigure. And I really did love Hatori at that time, and despite my best efforts I still do love him." Mimi left that in the air then sighed "That's the problem. Shigure said he would wait for me and the poor man has been waiting seven years. I love him so much and I want to be with him, but I know he deserves someone better than me."
Rei started to gather up the pictures that were on the ground and put them back into the box. "Don't you think you should let him decide that? He obviously wants to be with you. He's waited for seven long years. Why don't you call him and tell him what's going on?" Rei said.
"I don't know. I guess I'm just scared. I don't want to make the same mistake I made with Hatori. I couldn't go through that again." Mimi replied in a defeated tone.
Rei finished putting the photos back into the box then helped Mimi up "Come on, let's go back to mine and get drunk. Mimi I really think you have too much time on your hands. You know I could get you a job at my school teaching English."
Mimi replied as she followed Rei "I would like that but you know I already have a job at the moment writing. I thought teachers couldn't have any other jobs."
Rei answered "Well, you would be more of a teacher's assistant so it wouldn't matter if you had another job."
Mimi knew Rei was right but Mimi was not ready to get a job and constantly be around people and turned Rei's offer down.
After a few hours of drinking Rei said, "What you need is to get out and meet people." As soon as Rei said this she got a look in her eyes, "And I know just the thing."
Mimi didn't like the wild look Rei had in her eyes and could tell she was not going to like the next words out of Rei's Mouth.
"I'm going to set you up on a few dates. It should be a crime for such a hot babe like you to be single." Rei giggled and rubbed her hands together. "Yes I know a few guys."
Mimi's instincts were right. She really did not like the idea of this, and was beginning to feel like she was a sacrificial lamb being offered up to the gods.
"When you say it like that Rei you make me feel dirty, and that look in your eyes makes me feel like you're my pimp." Mimi quickly said.
Rei looked at Mimi and give her a dirty laugh then said "Dont be like that, I just think you could do with being shown a good time." Rei gave Mimi a dirty grin and raised her eyebrows.
Mimi couldn't help but smile as well "Fine, I give up. I can see resistance is going to be futile."
