Mimi looked at him. She could feel the anger building up and quickly wiped the tears away and said, "God you are such an asshole. I poured my heart and soul out to you and you chose her. What do you expect, you broke my heart? Damn you. Now it's not enough that I promised to leave you alone so you could move on and be happy with her. What the hell do you want Shigure? You can't have it both ways."
Shigure looked at Mimi as if she had lost her marbles and said, "What the hell are you talking about? Don't you dare try and turn this on me."
"Oh stop this. You know I'm talking about the letter. You made your choice and I'm just trying to leave you to it." Mimi started to pick up her clothes off the floor then said "Look, you can rest assured you won't have to put up with me after today."
Shigure laughed and said, "So you and Hatori got into another fight. I get it now. You thought you would act like a child and be rude to everyone. Same old shit I should have known, and what letter are you talking about."
"The letter I stuck in the middle of the manuscript when I last came to see you up in Hokkaido." Mimi replied scrunching her eyebrows together perplexed that he was even asking.
"I didn't get a letter. You must not have put it in there and that is not my fault" Shigure said.
Mimi smiled, gave a half laugh half grunt then said "Now I get it. Well I have to hand it to your wife. She got me, she got me good, but I can't say I blame her."
"There you go again, just leave Misato out of it." Shigure shouted in frustration because he had no idea what Mimi was talking about.
Mimi shook her head then enlightened Shigure, "I put a letter in the middle of the manuscript and sealed the envelope. When I went to your house that day Misato said you were out and I left it with her. I even made up a silly story so she wouldn't open the envelope and find the letter, but I can see that didn't work." Mimi laughed then said, "You should ask your precious wife if you want to know the truth. As far as I'm concerned I'm done. Between you and Hatori, the both of you have broken me and I've had enough so just let me leave here in peace. I'll be gone and out of your life for good by the end of the day."
Mimi wanted to leave things there but she knew that she should get everything off her chest as this was going to be the last time she saw him. "You need to know no matter how hard I've tried I can't get over you Shigure. I didn't want to repeat 'the same old shit' as you put it so I've ended it with Hatori. I also thought it was time Hatori knew the truth about us so I told him everything."
"Why the hell would you do that?" Shigure asked surprised that she actually told Hatori everything.
Mimi looked at Shigure heartbroken and let the tears run down her face then said, "Because it was time he knew everything and it's time I actually move on with my god damn life and I could not do that without telling him everything."
Shigure stood there and watched Mimi try to hold herself together as she continued to pack. When he could not take it anymore he turned and left. Shigure walked back to his house. He had so many things whirling around in his head. When he shut his front door he leaned against it and rested his head in his hands.
Misato came out of the living room and said, "I knew going over there to talk to that woman would only stress you. Didn't I tell you it would be better to leave it?"
Shigure looked at Misato and asked "Why do you hate Mimi so much?"
Misato raised her eyebrows and said "It's only because she causes you so much trouble."
''So that's the only reason, there is no other reason?" Shigure watched Misato as she answered trying to see if she reacted.
"No, don't be silly Shigure. If she wasn't so disagreeable, then things would be different," Misato replied.
"And why do you think she is so disagreeable these days. When she came up to Hokkaido in February all she wanted to do was make amends. So something must have happened between then and now."
Misato put her hand on Shigure's head and started running her fingers through his hair, "How should I know what happened? Maybe she changed her mind."
"Or maybe you took something that didn't belong to you," Shigure said grabbing Misato's hand and a cold expression took hold on his face as he said, "Where is it?"
Misato tried to back away but Shigure wouldn't let her as she said, "I don t know what you're talking about. Whatever that woman said she is just trying to make trouble between you and me."
"That is one thing Mimi would never do. In fact she has gone out of her way and sacrificed her own happiness over the years to not cause trouble." Shigure stiffened and tightened his hold he had on her wrist "So are you going to tell me where the letter is or did you destroy it?"
"What's the point in dragging up the past? You're married to me now, and we are happy. Can't you just leave it at that?" Misato asked pleading.
"No I can't. Now are you going to tell me what you did to the letter," Shigure shouted.
Misato gave up and said "It is back at home."
Shigure pushed himself off the door still holding Misato's wrist.
