Chapter 18 - Every Single Eavesdropping Customer In The Mall
I stuffed my hands in my hoodie pockets and drooped my head down. I stared at the floor and breathed heavily to calm my panic attacks. My legs felt shaky; like I was walking through a minefield.
In a way, I was walking through a minefield. One wrong move from any of us, and I might as well be dead. Rumors would spread faster than you could imagine and I could be known as the world's biggest slut in the span of eight seconds.
My eyes were wide open as I stared at the ground, unsure of what to do except walk forward.
Jordan turned his side hug into a comforting rub on the back. It helped me slightly, but the stares from every popular person that attends my school were overpowering.
"Hey, it's okay. Let's just buy what we need and get out of here." Jordan soothed as he continued to rub my back. I turned my head slightly to look at him with an appreciated smile.
Then I turned my head to see Ray. "Why didn't we just go to Goodwill like I offered?"
He opened his mouth to answer, but he was interrupted by the now, very noticeable, whispers.
I was able to here a few of them and walked faster, so they would go away.
"Isn't she that mute?"
"Why is she with hot guys?"
"Didn't that one guy pull out a gun and knock out a teacher?"
"I heard that one of them went into the girl's locker room and started harassing the mute."
"That mute stood up to Jessica Maxwell. It was so dope."
"Why is the mute walking with them? She even called one of them an asshole."
Wow. I'm called The Mute. I guess we all have names now.
The Boss.
The Henchman.
The Hacker.
The Mute.Mine's not as cool.
"Yoohoo! Jordan!" One girl, in particular, shouted in a sing-song voice.
All four of us looked in the direction as Jessica Maxwell approached us.
She was wearing one of the shortest navy blue skirts in existence, as well as a see-through white crop top that was too tight for her.
Seriously, where does she get her clothes?? The kid's section at Walmart?
She ran up to Jordan and hugged him suddenly, making Jordan lift up his arms in discomfort.
My eyes past from Jessica to Justin. We immediately made eye contact and the bored look on his face turned to joy.
He dropped the bags he was forced to hold and ran up to me. "Melissa!" He cheered excitedly, bring me into a hug and spinning me around.
My eyes widened at the contact he gave me.
"What the hell? Justin's hugging the mute?"
"Jessica is hugging the pervert?"
"The guy who pulled out the gun looks jealous."
"Who's that third guy? He looks bored out his mind?"
"But hey, he's cute though."
I looked over at Marcus who smirked at the last comment.
Justin put me down and smiled at me, still keeping his hands on my waist. "How long will you stay there? I'm missing you at school." He pouted.
