Chapter 42 - Boyfriend???

~30 Minutes Earlier~

Mason's POV

I sighed in annoyance as I checked my brother's text for the millionth time.

Marcus: I need you at the mansion immediately.

I don't understand what could be so important that I would have to stop being a lazy piece of shit on my couch to attend to. I wish my apartment was further away from the mansion so Marcus wouldn't bother me so much about going to the mansion. He probably just needs help cleaning the Man Cave, which is the reason they have Melissa, but I don't expect her to have the entire thing cleaned either. It's terrible down there. The smell would make cops think there's a dead body down there.

I can't help but worry about those three. KIdnapping a selling girls is a really risky business and I can't exactly stop it since they'd kill me if I protested. Melissa got lucky with them.

A small figure and a familiar smell passed me and I couldn't help but look to see who it was. I felt happy to see it was Melissa but became concerned when the familiar smell was the cologne that the guys use at the mansion.

I'm sure the emergency isn't that important.

I turned on my heal and walked quickly to catch up with the girl. I finally caught up with Melissa, but she didn't seem to notice. Her eyes were focused on the ground as she was muttering things under her breath that I couldn't make out. Then she made a disgusted face and I chuckled a little bit. How was that cute?

"Wow. I didn't know my face was that hideous." I sighed with a smirk as I stared down at her. She slightly jumped and turned to me in surprise. It was only then that I realized that she had been crying recently. It's nothing new, but it's not like I can ignore it. I frowned at the stains on her cheeks.

She processed my presence and turned forward again, walking faster. "Wait, Melissa! What happened?" I grabbed her wrist out of instinct. I pulled her back and made sure she didn't fall back by putting my arm around her shoulders. I let go of her arm, remembering that she still had sensitive cuts on her arms.

She flinched and immediately start rubbing her wrist as if it would ease the pain. Her hands turned into fists and she didn't bother looking at me again before pushing herself away from me and running forward. I stood still, not really sure what her deal was.

What was she doing by herself outside the mansion?

My eyes widened in shocked and I was about to sprint after her, but she was already gone.

Melissa WAS the emergency.

I turned on my heel again and sprinted towards the mansion.  It's only a few blocks away, but getting there still felt like forever. I should ask Marcus if I could get some money for a car. Walking really isn't the best transportation in some situations.

I got to the mansion and didn't bother knocking. I already knew that those shit heads were too lazy to lock the door most of the time. Which is really risky for their business. I panted as I entered the door. "Marcus!"

The first sight I saw was Jordan with a red and purple cheek. As he stared silently as Marcus held Ray up against the wall by his shirt. God damn.

I took a few steps to the couch to see Ray with a black eye and a bag of peas weakly hanging from his fingers. Marcus however, not a scratch. He was absolutely furious and I was getting scared from his behavior. I have never seen him so angry. Marcus seemed focussed on silently threatening Ray until he spotted me in his peripheral vision. He dropped Ray and stomped towards me and I took a few steps back, afraid that Marcus had gone psycho. He stopped in front of me and there was a terrifying silence. "Why was Melissa walking by herself? She looked like she had been crying. Hard." I asked in confusion, trying not to look like a wimp next to my brother.
