Chapter 30 - I'm Proud Of You

MELISSA'S POV

"What? Is something wrong? What happened?" Justin pressed.

"I... I don't know. She called me "friend" and her tone was forced." I explained.

"W-wait, really?? She called you "friend"? Harsh. Should I drive you to your place to check it out."

I shook my head. "No... that's practically a death trap for me... I have to stay here where I'm invisible." I obviously knew that he was just offering so he could know where she lives. Stalker much?

Justin tilted his head. "Why would you want to stay invisible? Did you get fired from a job?" He questioned.

Justin doesn't know that I work as a maid. Unless Ruby told him. I doubt it.

She wouldn't say anything, right?

I can trust her...

Justin and I both sat on the floor in the alley that I was staying in. We sat across from each other.

"No... I quit."

Justin's mouth turned into an "o" shaped as he awkwardly patted my back. "Well, I'm sure they'll miss you."

"Who?" I turned my head to him. I wanted to see if he knew anything about me.

"Those boys, of course. Ruby said that you worked as a maid for them. That's why you're living over there." Justin gave a half-smile. "I'm sure that they'll miss you." He repeated.

So she did tell him.

"Oh... yeah. I'm afraid they'll miss me too much, though." I looked at the ground.

Justin was about to question me again but his phone started ringing. "Oh. I think it's Ruby." He handed me the phone.

I looked at the number and nodded, confirming that it was indeed Ruby's number. I pressed "Answer" and held it up to my ear.

"Hey, Ruby. Is everything okay? You sounded nervous before." I asked.

I heard a sniffle. "Oh yeah... something just came up."

Cue the silence.

"Ruby? I hear a fan in the background. Am I on speaker phone?" I asked suspiciously.

And then I could sense the panic in her voice. "Oh, uh yeah! I d-didn't feel like holding the phone to my ear. That's all."

I sighed. "Okay, Ruby. Do you want to meet up or something? I haven't seen you in a while. Plus, I need to catch you up on this dramatic rollercoaster called "My Life"." I laughed, trying to lighten up the mood.

"Y-yeah! That would be great! Can you text me the address of where you want to meet up?" She asked happily.

"Oh yeah, sure. I'll see you later, then." I grinned. "Love you." And I hung up.

"Something's definitely wrong," I muttered to Justin.

Justin was about to ask something but I cut him off. "Okay! I need you to help me."

He stayed silent.

"I need to find a place to meet up with Ruby. But somewhere far enough away from my new "home"." I sighed, standing up. Justin followed my actions.

I don't know if I can trust her completely with the tone she's been using lately.

She's your sister. How can you not trust her?
