Chapter 40 - Back Here Again
I'm back here again.
I'm back in the hell that apparently benefited me, yet destroyed me in so many ways.
I stood in front of the mansion for a minute, taking in the size. I feel like I've done this before. The small breeze flew through my hair as the sun shines from behind me, onto the building.
There's a magic about this house. If you don't stare at it enough, you can't appreciate it enough and a voice tells you to keep looking until it's satisfied. If you stare at it for too long, you start to feel intimidated and the building seems to grow and try to swallow you until you look away.
I think that happens with most objects. We don't appreciate things enough or we appreciate them until they scare us.
"Miss it?" Ray whispered in my ear, putting his hand on the small of my back, making me gasp from the surprise.
Speaking of scaring.
"Oh, how could I not miss the house that took me away from my family, education, and sanity?" I said sarcastically, causing Ray to chuckle.
"It's not that bad. If you wanted to go to school, you could've told us. We can get you a laptop and you can take online classes." He brought his arm to wrap around my shoulders and he pushed me towards it.
A flood of fear ran through my body as we walked towards the door. I tried looking away from the house but the feeling of it trying to swallow me didn't go away.
I felt a squeeze on my arm from Ray because he saw me hesitating slightly.
I breathed again and walked forward a bit more willingly. I felt like I was walking with bricks attached to my shoes. Each step felt heavy and tiring.
Jordan ahead of us and up to the door to unlock it. Marcus walked on the right side of me and stared at me with a slight smile. We made eye contact and he quickly looked away.
Jordan opened the door and walked in first, immediately walking to the kitchen to make some food. I got to the doorstep and I became hesitant again. Ray's hand glided back down to the small of my back and pushed me through.
Marcus walked and closed the door behind us and walked over the living room, sitting down as he turned the TV on to college football. Ray sat down on next to him but on the other end so there was a big space next to them.
I stuck out my tongue in disgust. Basketball is better.
Sadly, I had nothing else to do. I walked to the back of the couch and fell back so I was upside down. Marcus looked down at me and so did Ray. They both gave off a smile and Ray pinched my cheek like a grandmother. I groaned because he pinched too hard.
And that was when I realized how I'm taking this for granted. Yes, I don't want to be here, and yes, I'd rather stay away from these men, and yes, I'd prefer to be watching basketball, but it's still a peaceful moment that'll probably disappear in a few seconds. Everything in this house is dramatic, so I don't know what to expect.
I just hope this lasts a while.
~Time Skip~
It's been a few hours of doing absolutely nothing but watching football. I was bored out of my mind.
Dogpile, tackle, tackle, dogpile. It was so repetitive.
Marcus went to his room a while ago and I was still positioned upside down... well, more of just laying my head on the seat and my legs over the back of it. If my head was actually upside down, tons of blood would rush to my head and bad things would come from that.
