Chapter 22 - A Mask of Happiness
I trembled in place as I heard the gunshot fire.
But I wasn't hurt.
And Perceil was screaming.
I opened my teary eyes and saw Perceil on the floor, screaming curses while holding his leg. Blood poured from his leg, soaking into his clothing and dripping through the crack of his fingers.
I stared in horror.
Why would he do that?
But then Perceil smirked at me for a split second, grabbing the gun and sliding it across the floor, through the bars, and next to my feet.
What?
The Boys ran in and looked at the scene in horror. "What happened here?" Ray screamed.
Perceil shouted his response, I was still in shock to process everything correctly. "Your maid took a gun out a shot me in the leg! Why are you giving her a weapon!?"
My eyes widened. He was framing me??
I felt claustrophobic and everything felt like I was drowning in a whirlpool of stares.
"It wasn't me! I swear! It wasn't me!" I screamed in my head.
My voice didn't work. I felt like I was suffocating. It felt like there was a weight on my chest. I couldn't breath normally.
I panted heavily, trying to get as much air as I could. I stumbled backwards into the corner of the room to get balance, but I knew what was going to happen next.
"It..." my voice spoke quietly. "It wasn't me." I breathed as my vision faded to black and I felt someone pick me up bridal style before I face planted.
"Take care of Perceil! I'll take Melissa outside to get some fresh air." Ray ordered above me.
A minute later, I felt a fresh breeze across my skin, and it was a lot easier to breathe all of the sudden.
Ray sat down on the front steps, causing me to sit in his lap and lean against his chest as he rocked me like a baby.
"Why'd you do it, Melissa? It's hard to believe that it was you, but how else could it have happened?" Ray sighed.
If it's hard to believe, than don't believe it! He shot himself!
"I know your capable since Ruby mentioned that your father was a soldier when she shot Jordan in the foot a while ago.
I am capable, but why would I shoot him? And you remember that??
"I haven't seen either of your parents, nor have you talked about them. Is it a bad relationship or something?" He questioned as if I was still conscious.
I felt a buzz in my uniform pocket and Ray stared at the pocket in confusion.
He took my phone and I assume he read through the texts.
"What the fuck?" Ray breathed as he continued scrolling.
My eyes fluttered open and my hand went straight to my head. It was throbbing in pain.
I groaned unattractively and Ray looked at me like I had two heads.
"It... wasn't you." He stated with his draw slightly dropped. "And your mom never even knew where you were. This whole time?"
I nodded and frowned, facing down so my hair covered my face.
"How did she not notice her daughter was gone?" He asked, sroking my hair as I leaned against him.
