Chapter 4 - New & Improved Mother

"Melissa, dear, do you want some lunch? You haven't come out of your room ever since breakfast time." I heard a voice behind my door that I instantly recognized when it talked.

"I'm fine, Jordan. I'm not hungry." I stated. Ever since breakfast, I've become really self-conscious and realized how I was acting so much differently. I just needed some space and time to think about the past. Sadly, I've worried the shit out of Jordan, and he won't stop bugging me.

I don't blame him since he's seen my cuts already.

They've all seen my cuts, and yet, I still wear the hoodie.

"Lissa, you need to eat." He whined from the other side of the door.

"Don't call me 'Lissa.' Only my sister can do that. And I'll be fine. I've already starved myself once, so I know how to take care of myself." I smiled softly, curling into an even tighter ball on my bed.

"Okay, that's it," Jordan yelled, bursting through the door and glaring daggers at me. "I am not letting my child starve herself. You will eat whether you like it or not." He walked over to me and picked me up bridal style. I hugged his neck to keep a balance so I wouldn't fall.

"Jordan, I'm not your child. And if you're so concerned about me, then let me go home." I frowned, staring at his chest, still wondering how I felt like an eyelash to him.

"No. While you are here, I will be your 'New & Improved' mother." He smirked back. Although I couldn't see him, I could tell he was looking down at me.

Just like everyone else.

"Heh. Well, you're definitely an 'Improved' mother. I think that just you worrying about me today is more than my mom has ever her entire life." I chuckled. I knew it wasn't funny but his reaction was so stone cold and straightforward that it was shocking.

"Melissa, that's not funny. That's really concerning, actually." He frowned.

"I know. But making it sound like a joke lightens up the fact that it's true." I sighed, laying my head on his chest.

Considering this was a trip to the kitchen, it sure was taking a while. Then I realized that we were outside. I lifted my head and looked around in shock as the cold breeze hit my bare feet.

"Whaaa??" Was all I managed to say as I turned my head back to Jordan. He was looking back at me with a smirk.

"I'm not a professional cook, so we're just going to get some fast food." He grinned.

"You should've let me get my shoes first."

"No. Then you would try something sneaky. Either way, I have sandals in the car for you."

I frowned at that. "You don't trust me?"

"Yes."

"Well damn. I feel betrayed."

Cue silence.

He laid me down in the passenger seat, followed by walking around the front of the black car and getting in the driver seat.

"Las chanclas?" I asked in a funny voice.

He stared at me in confusion. "What?"

"Las chanclas."

"English please."

"Sandals. Where are the sandals? People don't appreciate funny memes these days." I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms over my chest, looking out the passenger window.
