Chapter 38 - Relying On Superpowers
"You, Melissa Collins, work for Jordan, Marcus, and I, as a maid. Your family knows you are with us." Ray explained, and I stared in awe, just now learning the other two's names.
"How did I lose my memory?"
"I... uh... hugged you."
I gave them a raised eyebrow, basically saying "oh really?"
"Um... I like hugs... you knew this, by the way. But you got annoyed so you tried getting away and I yanked you back with your wrist and you banged your head on the wall."
"Ouch. That must've hurt." I cringed feeling the skin around my wrist since it was feeling tingly.
"I mean, I bet it did too. The wall was stone-"
"No, I mean with my wrist. Because of the..." I froze up, realizing that these guys probably don't know what I've done to myself.
"We know about it." They all said in sync.
"I... don't know what there is to know about. What're you talking about?" I played innocent, being extremely cautious. I know the act wasn't believable, but it's better than bursting out in tears, ranting about my life problems. What if I did that, and they actually didn't know?
"We know you cut yourself," Marcus said and I immediately choked on my saliva from his bluntness. "Melissa, we witnessed you do it. You had to stay in bed for days because your arms got paralyzed."
"I tried to get you to hug me back to make sure your arms were alright, but you just complained about getting my shirt bloody." Jordan laughed awkwardly and rubbed the back of his neck.
"I couldn't care less about your clothing," I muttered to myself.
"Melissa, you told us about your problems." Ray sighed and I looked at him like he was crazy. "You've told us about Shae, and your dad. Your mother being distant. It's really sad how you can't remember everything that's happened?"
I stayed silent for a few seconds, processing the information that apparently I told them. "What... happened?" I asked cautiously.
"Mason likes you. From what I've heard, you've got your sister and Justin to hook up. Your mother is... acting like a mother. You haven't cut yourself since the last time we caught you. Most of your school thinks that you're a badass."
"How... do you know all of this? My bully? The Maxwells??"
"Mason is my brother." Marcus said calmly, although I could see that he was a bit tense when I said "bully". "He's been making sure you're alright at school for us."
I let out a silent gasp.
"I shot Justin in the foot because he doubted me," Ray stated casually.
I let out a loud gasp.
This guy has a gun?? He shot Justin in the foot?? Oh god. Justin must hate me. I work for a bunch of murderers.
I stood up from in between Ray and Jordan and backed up near the TV. Jordan smacked Ray's arm. "Way to go, Boss. I thought we were giving her a good first impression."
"What? Boss? First impression?" I backed up a bit more. "Did any of this even happen, or are you just lying to me?"
"No, we're not lying! Everything we told you is true. We were just trying to avoid saying... everything that's happened. I guess some of us need to work on that." Jordan glared at Ray and Ray looked away with a scowl.
I took one more step back. "I... I'll find out from my sister. Goodbye." I quickly walked to the front door and swung it open.
What? What are you doing? These guys have all of the information you want to hear.
