Chapter 37 - NOT Ray's Property
Cue the flashback.
"Trixy, what happened? Are you okay?" I asked worriedly, stepping into our 'secret spot' to see her.
There was nothing secret about it. It was just a giant box in our garage. It was the first thing you saw while walking in. Everyone knew about it. Mom and dad knew, but they left us alone while we were there because that was the whole purpose of 'secret spot'.
Need time alone? Come in!
Want to talk/rant? Join us!
Just want to hang out? Sure!
Need to hide junk food? Go ahead!
No adults allowed.I sat on the dirty, old pillow we used as cushions and faced her as she cried into her knees.
"C-Cameron called me f-fat!" She choked in between sobs.
I scooted next to her to rub her back as she leaned on my shoulder.
Cameron's this kid who's been eyeing her for the past few weeks. He teases her all the time. He even gets girlfriends and rubs it in her face, saying "Ha! You're still single."
Of course, when she didn't care, he would immediately dump them. 6th-grade drama is the worst.
I think he wants her to be jealous because he likes her, but she won't listen. Boys having a weird way of showing emotions. Especially Cameron. It's so obvious that he's trying to get her, but some of the things he does are just rude.
Like one time, he got his hands on red food dye and put it on her seat. It was the second week of school, so he didn't remember where Shae sat. He ended up putting it on Rubine's chair and she played it off. If people pointed out that her pants were red, she'd say it's because she's becoming a true woman. Genius!
"Trixy, do you accept your body?"
She nodded.
"Then why do you care about what he thinks?"
"It still hurts when you're being called fat." She sniffed.
"By the only kid who teases you? If he's saying it, you shouldn't worry. Cameron's trying to get your attention."
Shae nodded. "Okay," she sniffled. "But I still hate boys."
We both chuckled and stayed in that one spot until she was completely calmed.

"Dad! Where have you been?" I breathed as our father stumbled into the house with bags under his eyes. It was around 2:00 AM.
"Hey, girly. I was working really late tonight. Sorry for not texting you." He sighed, pulling out his phone as I hugged his side. "What're you doing up this late, sweetie?"
"You worried me. Ruby and Trixy went to sleep about twenty minutes ago. I said I would report to them in the morning if you're okay." I tiredly grinned, proud of myself for being useful.
"Girly, you're going to ruin your sleeping schedule." He sighed again. Pushing me by the small of my back and to the family room. We let out grunts as we practically fell on the couch.
"I'll ruin it for you." I yawned as dad kicked off his shoes and we cuddled on the couch, falling asleep in each other's arms.

"I'm very sorry to say, but Aaron Henry Collins was shot during the war and bled to death."

"Lissa, I'm staying home today. I haven't been feeling very well." Shae announced sadly as Rubine and I got ready for school.
"Okay, Trixy. Stay home and get some rest. Make some soup. I'll see you when I get home?" I asked, hoping to see that soft smile she usually gives out. Those smiles haven't been showing as often, but she still gives them out when needed.
