Chapter 43 - What About P.E.?
"Wow, it's like nobody knows when somebody gets into a relationship. People need to gossip more, honestly." Melissa's mother put her hand on her cheek as she sighed. "Well, I'll go make dinner while you four talk to each other. Mason, sweety, come over whenever you want." She patted my shoulder and started on her way to the kitchen. I stood still as there was an awful silence, except Melissa regaining her composure on the floor.
I looked back to see Melissa's mother still peeking from the corner and shooing me to go inside. Afraid of blowing my cover, I awkwardly looked back at Melissa. "Heyyyy... sweety?" I quickly stepped in and closed the door, sliding down to the floor against it. I covered my face, feeling my cheeks heating up. "I am so, so, so sorry. I did not mean for this to happen." I mumbled into my palms.
I separated the spaces in between my fingers to look through, only to see everyone staring at me in silence, confusion, and semi- hatred. I cleared my throat and looked at Melissa. "Melissa, I need to talk to you about a certain subject."
Melissa froze for a second and then flinched from her own thoughts. She crawled back, next to the bed that Ruby and Justin for sitting on. "If they're coming back for me, I will call the police this time. I don't care what I said I would or wouldn't do. I'm free from them now and that is not changing."
"Not... exactly," I said seriously and then I looked at the couple on the bed, then back to Melissa. "Do they know?" She nodded in response and I look back at the couple. They were both glaring daggers at me and I swear I could hear a growl coming from Justin. Ruby put her hand out in front of Melissa as if that would stop me from talking to her.
I sighed as I ran my hand through my hair. "Melissa, I swear that we are not the bad guys anymore. I was sent by the guys to protect you."
"From what?"
"Not what. Who." I stood up and walked over to the small table next to the bed and leaned against it. "Carl Hubre."
Everyone stiffened.
Mr. Hubre was an awful man; a psychopathic pervert. I don't even know why the guys do business with him, but they've told me stories about what he does with the girls he buys. He will treat them as slaves- no, objects. He'll keep them locked up to starve and then fucks them when they're too weak to protest. He has his own pleasure room, full of toys and contraptions for every kink. That's not even the worst he can do...
"But... I'm not there anymore. It shouldn't be a problem." Melissa said with an uncomfortable tone. I shook my head and I noticed Justin worriedly rubbing Ruby's hand to comfort her and himself. Then I looked at Melissa. I felt bad that she didn't have anyone comforting her. She was just curled next to the bed and I thought I saw her shaking slightly. Even her sister was more focused on hugging her boyfriend than trying to comfort her sister. I felt tempted to go over to her and hug her but decided against it.
"Considering how the guys explained how disgustingly interested he was in you, I already know that he won't give up once he sees you gone," I said, making a face at the floor. "The guys sent me to keep my eye on you at all times so you shouldn't bother getting rid of me. Jordan will get into the school system and change my schedule so I have every class with you."
"What about P.E.?" She asked, looking at the floor with wides eyes and I swear I saw her blush a bit. Even Justin and Ruby gave her a smirk.
"No, I'm not going to the girl's locker room. Calm down." I paused and smiled slightly. "Unless you want me too?" She stayed silent and her face turned crimson. Then she suddenly blinked several times and shook her head. My smirk widened, already knowing that she was thinking about me. She cleared her throat. "No, thank you. You'd explode from the amount of barely naked girls in there."
I raised an eyebrow. "Who said I'd be looking at them?" She shot me a glare and Ruby started rapidly shaking her fists and fangirling. It was funny to see Justin doing it too. I didn't know it was possible to look like a tomato, but Melissa seemed to pull it off well.
Why was I so mean to her? I literally had no reason to do the things I did.
She sat up straight and gained her composure. "It's not happening Mason. It's not like you'd see much of me either way." I was about to comment on what she meant with the last part but I got distracted by the aura that the couple on the bed was giving. They were glaring daggers at Melissa for ruining the ship and I almost chuckled.
"So... um... how long do you think he'll be trying to get me?" Her knuckles turned pale as she scrunched them up against her knees, tension building as I tried to give an answer that was accurate. "I honestly don't know. It could be weeks before he makes his first attempt. The guys will try to hold him off as much as they can, but..." I debated whether or not to say what the best option for them was. I decided not to. "... Anyways, I need to make sure he doesn't get near you. So... can we please be nice to each other for the time being? I don't know what I would do if you got into his hands under my protection."
Everyone stayed quiet for a minute before she nodded. "But... why did you say you were my... boyfriend?" She scowled at the word and I felt a bit worried about my life. "It uh... was the first word that came to mind."
"You could've just said you were a friend."
"You really think mom would believe that?" Ruby budded in.
"... True. But what about best friends?"
"Who cares, it's too late now. Mason's your boyfriend and sleeping over for however long because he... got kicked out!- no... um... having some family issues...? That way she won't ask about it." Justin grinned and we all nodded in approvement from the idea.
I tried thinking of other ideas that could help us out. "Ah. Justin, Ruby," They turned to me with their full attention which I appreciated greatly. It made me feel... powerful, in a good way. "Knowing all of this information, I expect you to look out for Melissa too. If you see anything suspicious, please report it to me and we can decide whether or not it's something to watch out for. We should probably exchange numbers, y'know, make a group chat." Everybody nodded again and a few minutes later, we had exchanged numbers and made a chat.
After that, we all relaxed for a bit.
Until it was dinner time and we all expect lots of questions from Mama Bear.
Author's Note
Oh boy, we gettin' serious.
Don't expect it anytime soon, but it's sad to say that this book is leading to its end. ;-;
But writing these few recent chapters have been really fun, so I wouldn't be surprised if I accidentally sidetracked and carried on with dumb filler chapters. BUT I GOTTA STICK TO THE PLOT!
Well, thanks for reading! New chapter coming soon!
