Crimson Pack

Chapter 1

Aria~

I am surrounded by green, this is the only colour visible. My heart is racing a million times an hour. I have to run, I can't stop because I know that if I do everything would be over. If I stop I will lose. I have to win for my mum. She knows that I will have a better future. I have to make her proud. I will show her that I can win this. I could finally see it. The very bright light, in this case, the end of the chase ... I was so close, so so close to the finishing line.

I gasp at the lack of oxygen. I always wake up after that part. I have never actually figured out what happened or why I was running or what was chasing me. Every time I fall asleep I will watch the exact same dream. Four months now I've been watching the same dream. The dream would end at that precise moment. It feels more like a vision...

I blink a few times so my eyes can adjust to the lighting in my room. My throat tanks me for hydration. This dream felt so real.

I swing my legs off the bed and stand up. I stretch a little bit and walk downstairs. My mum is in the kitchen cooking something that smells really nice. It's just me and my mum, Katherine. My dad was killed by some other werewolves when I was 6. My mum refuses to give me more details about it. She says that this belongs to the past. So it's just the two of us. My mum has been working hard all these years so I could have everything that I needed.

"Good morning, " my mum says and gives me a smile

" Good morning mum. This smells so good " I comment when she puts the plate in front of me.

I am trying to act as normal as possible. Tomorrow is the big day. The day that my mum has been waiting for, for about 4 months. It's the big chase. I'm not sure that I'll survive but I'll try. I'll do it for my mum. Although the woods are almost impossible to escape. The trees are so thick and tall.

There are definitely better girls than me but I know that I can run really fast, so I think I'll manage to cross the finishing line.

Alpha Xavier is 21. He hasn't found his mate yet. When the Alpha cannot find his mate, this contest is organised so only the best girls from each pack will be given the chance to be the future Lunas. Five girls from each pack will have to run through the woods.

This week started the Chase. First was the Crimson Pack which is Alpha Xavier's Pack. A girl named Allison crossed the line first so this brings her to the next part of the contest.

Then it was Macy. The girl from the Shadow pack. Gianna from the Lilac pack. Emerson from the Mazarine pack. Kinsley from the Ivory pack. The only Pack that doesn't take part in the Chase is the Aster Pack. All we know is that their Alpha is super strict and distant and finds it humiliating do he refused to let any girl go.

Today is the last chase. It's my turn to run. I was chosen because I was one of the best female werewolves in the Emerald pack. Me and 4 other girls will have to run through the woods. I am not sure that I'll win, nor am I sure that I'll cross the line first. Maybe, I am not good enough to win. What if I win? What if I am chosen to be the Luna of the Crimson Pack? I need to stop thinking like that. I'll drive myself insane. All my questions will be answered tomorrow.

I am scared. I am really scared. But being scared is not going to help in any way.
My mum kisses me goodbye and she leaves for work. She works in our pack and helps the Alpha. Last time I went to school was 4 months ago. When they chose me to run with other girls. They give us the chance not to attend school since we'll be taking part in the Chase. I don't know the other girls though. It could be any girl. Even girls from my school.

I walk up to my bedroom. I have to keep my mind at ease. I watch a few movies but I spend most of the time looking out of my window. This can be my last time here. My life can change completely.This is what freaks me out the most.

My mum comes back from work later that afternoon.

"Aria this is your clothes that you'll wear tomorrow. Please don't open the box " she says

"What's the point of wearing something elegant when it will be ruined in the woods ?" I ask her

" That's what they gave us and that's what you're asked to wear so you don't get to choose, " she tells me and I smile sarcastically.

The next morning I wake up in a sweat. I had the same dream and the same end. This is so weird. At least it will all be over today. My mum walks in a few minutes later, pushing me in the bathroom so I could shower. I blow dry my hair and walk back in my room. We open the box and see the clothes that they had put in. There was a very smart shirt in there with my name and pack logo on it. The sweatpants are actually really comfy so I could run without restrictions. She helps me with my hair and then I was ready.

" Aria we should hurry or we'll be late and you know what will happen if that happens "

I feel like a cursed child after all. Maybe I should run away now that I can and if I do I won't have go through this process.

I take a last look at my room and hope that I would come back one day.
