Aria ~
The car ride is silent. I can tell that my mum wants to say something so desperately, but she decides against it. When we get there I take a look out of my window. There are so many guards and this freaks me out even more. The car stops and me and my mum both stay in silent.
"My sweet Aria, I know you don't want this " my mum tells me
"But this is the best opportunity for you and your future. If you win this you'll have things that I was never able to give you " she continues and touches my hand softly.
"They might be able to give me things that you never gave me, but they'll never give me the love that you showed me," I tell her. She gasps and tears form in her eyes.
"I love you so much Aria. I'll always love you " she says and hugs me as tight as she can
"I love you more mum " I put my arms around her and hug her.
" Make it to the final line first. I have faith in you " she tells me when she pulls away and I nod. Tears brimming in my eyes.
"No crying. Not today " she says and wipes them. I nod and walk out of the car.
I notice a few people from my hometown. They must be here to watch the Chase.
"Welcome to the Chase. All the contestants should walk to the front line so we would give them some details. " someone says from area that looks like the stage
"Aria you have to go, " my mum says
" I love you mum, " I tell her and give her one last hug
"Me too. Go make me proud " she smiles and I nod
I start walking away. My heart is racing faster and faster. Guards were standing next to us just in case we try to get sneaky and jump off. I know that the odds of getting through the woods are not great. The line begins to move. No one talks and when I hear the slightest peep I turn around and look behind me.
A girl with black hair and deep brown eyes speaks to the girl behind her.
"Let's just hope that we won't die in there " she whispers
"Why don't they make it easier? They should have chosen a field, not forest" the other girl says. She has blonde hair and deep blue eyes. She looks a few years older than me.
I gulp and my hands begin to shake. I have to calm down or else they'll eat me alive. We approach a bumpy road. I look up and see a huge mass of green. Just like in my dreams. The forest is in a semi-circle and reaches a few miles. I hear some murmurs around me.
"Welcome ladies!Thanks for coming here today "
" So today it's the big day. You should run as fast as you can. The first girl who crosses the final line wins " the announcer says
" As you can see there's this line where you should give the person your name and a few other details " he adds
All the girls walk to the first station. We tell the man, standing behind the desk our names. He directs us to the station two. They give us a pin. The pin has our strength on a scale of one to ten.
I'm still in the Station 1. My hands shaking. After a few minutes, I realise that it's my turn.
"Hello, name please, " the man says
"Aria, Aria Johnson, " I tell him, my voice shaky. He nods and writes it down.
"Okay please go to the Station 2, " he tells me and hands me a paper. I nod and walk up to Station 2.
"Hello there...Aria " another man says when he reads my name.
"You were ranked with a 9 out of 10. Congratulations " he says and I gasp.
A 9? Wow, that's impressive. I walk next to 2 other girls that we're ahead of me.
"Hey I am Jessica, "one of the girls say.
"Nice to meet you! I am Aria " I say
"What did you get ?" she asks me
"I got a 9, what about you ?" I say and she gasps
"Wow I got a 8, " she tells me
"Okay all the girls are ready now " the announcer speaks again
" Hello, everyone! Welcome to chase. Thanks for being here with us today" he adds
" Let's meet the girls now, " he says
" Madeline Miller, ranked with a 7, " he says and everyone claps.
" Emily Potter ranked with a 7 as well"
" Josephine Smith ranked with an 8 "
" Jessica Alba ranked with an 8 too"
" And last Aria Johnson, ranked with a 9, " he says and everyone claps
"Okay, now a few basic rules. When you hear the canons the girls will start running. If you get lost, use your mind link so we will be able to help you. If we see someone doing something to prevent another girl from reaching the final line, then we will have to eliminate you " he adds
" I wish you all good luck, " he says lastly. The guards lead us to the starting line.
"Ladies and Gentlemen the Chase will start in 20 seconds, " the announcer says. My heart is racing a thousand miles a minute.
"10 " Come on Aria! You can do this
"5" You're strong
"4 " You're fast
"3 " Believe in yourself
"2" Focus
"1" Run
With that, the cannon goes off.
