Aria ~

The sound of the door opening is enough to wake me up. It's dark in my room, there's only the light deriving from the hallway.

"I am sorry Miss Aria-" Mara starts

"I mean Aria " she corrects herself.

" It's dinner time " she announces

"What time is it ?" I ask her

"7 pm, " she says

I was sleeping for so many hours. But I was so tired. Although I still feel tired.

"5 more minutes "I groan and bury my head back in the pillow.

"It will get cold " she scolds me

"Okay, okay! I'm up" I stand up and she goes to make my bed.

The moment I slide into my chair I'm served an enormous platter of food.
Mushroom soup, bitter greens with tomatoes the size of peas, rare roast beef slices as thin as paper, noodles in a green sauce, cheese that melts on your tongue served with sweet blue grapes.

If Mom was here, she would describe the way I  would eat dinner as a kid. I'd pick all my favourite things off the plate first and then, when I  was half satiated, pull a face at the rest of the meal.

"Mara tell me a few things about the Alpha. I am not from this Pack so I don't a lot of about him " I ask her

"Well he can be very demanding and bossy but he's the Alpha so that's how he is supposed to be. He's distant so we don't know a lot of things about him. However from the day that the first girls arrived here, he's been friendlier and more outgoing. " She tells me

"I guess I'll have to learn about this kind of things " I laugh

"The dinner was amazing. Thank you" I tell her

"That's why I am here Aria " she smiles

"Tomorrow morning you'll meet the other girls. I think that the Alpha will be there as well so you should get some rest. I'm sure you don't want to look like a zombie "she laughs

"I will " I smile

"I don't need anything else. You can go now  " I tell her and she nods.

I open the door for her and notice that Stuart is not outside.

"Mara "I call her name and she turns around

"Where are the guards ?" I ask her

" The Alpha's father wanted to tell them something.  They will be back soon " she explains

"Oh okay "

"But don't worry. Nothing is going to happen to you " she reassures me

"I know, I was just wondering " I laugh

"Good Night Aria, " she says and walks down the stairs

I walk back in my room and open my window.  I step outside and try to understand what's down there. The woods always look different at night.  Everything has an unfamiliar slant to it. As if the daytime trees and flowers and stones have gone to bed and sent slightly more ominous versions of themselves to take their places.

I was never forced to be somewhere. I know that I  just got here and I'm sure that it will be worse later but this is the most difficult part of the contest.

Wait

"The guards aren't in the hallway so nobody is going to notice me sneaking out of this house. Perfect timing " I think

I walk back inside and close the window behind me. I quickly open the door and stick my head out of the door. Nobody is there. I dash down the stairs while trying to walk without making any noise. When I reach the bottom floor I take a look around the huge hall. How many people live in here? Why is it so quiet?

I open the door,  its creaking noise bringing a chill to my spine. Luckily nobody hears that. The air is heavy and humid, just walking through the garden I  can feel the moisture clinging to my clothes. It felt thick as I  breathed it in.

There is a circular lawn with a path around it. There was a central bed of shrubs. Outside of the lawn area are four rose bush beds to fill up the square area.

The stone path feels rough and solid under my feet, wooden lanterns next to the path and with their light I can see the flowers around me.  The grass has been mown so short the ground shows through.

The air is perfumed by the heavy scent of the lilies. Their white petals are striking against the backdrop of stone walls, simply beautiful. On closer inspection, I could see that their stamens had been removed.

I sit on the bench next to me, enjoying this moment alone. I  wonder if I'll see my mum anytime soon or if they will give me the chance to spend some time in a normal house, with no maids and guards.

I watch the house standing tall in front of me. There are so many rooms and balconies. Most lights are off. Only one is switched on, on the top floor. I wonder who lives there. The window on that floor opens and someone walks outside.  This is getting interesting. Before I can hide the person is looking straight in my eyes.

I would recognise those crystal blue eyes from miles.

Alpha's eyes

I don't really know what to do so I just stay there frozen. I'm going to be in so much trouble. I am surprised when he smiles and walks back inside, leaving the lights on.

I quickly stand up and make my way to the house. I just realised how big this garden is. It will take me at least 1 to 2 mins to reach the front door.

I freeze when I hear a cracking sound behind me. I turn around but there's nothing there. I am just being paranoid. I start walking again and I listen to some footsteps. I fought the urge to turn around. Then there comes another crunch, this time lighter and slower as if the maker of the noise is trying to be quieter. I ran, each footstep scattering stones as my feet hit the path.

A strong arm is wrapped around my waist and I try to scream. The person puts his hand in front of my mouth so my voice is muffled. The person turns me around and the first thing that I see are those blue eyes.

"Aria, " he says and his voice soft. He lets go of me.

"You scared me to death " I put my hand on my chest as if this would calm down my heart beat.

"Why are you outside?  Where's your guard ?" he asks me

"I-" I begin to say but stop because I need to collect my thoughts

"Your father wanted to talk to the guards so he wasn't out of my door. I needed some fresh air so I walked outside just for a little bit " I explain him

"You're not very safe out here Aria. That's why we told you to stay in the mansion. Especially at night " he tells me

"I'm sorry...I'm just not used to this. I was never told to stay somewhere.  This is completely different. I will need some time " I say and look down at my feet

" Hey ...It's okay! You can still come out here but not alone. You should be accompanied by a guard or me " he says and I nod

" We should go inside before someone finds us out here " he laughs

We walk back inside in the building. He was following me slowly outside.  He didn't say a word he just walked.

"Please do that for me Aria. For your own safety  " his eyes begging me

" Yeah don't worry, "I say

"Good night, " I say and slightly smile

"Good night Aria "
