______________________________________Panic flooded through your mind as your wrists tugged against the ropes tied around them. Your eyes blinked rapidly, but you couldn't see anything. The room was dark, pitch black, and you were terrified. Breaths heaving, they only seemed to get heavier as you heard noises grow closer to you.
Light bounced off the smooth cave wall, illuminating the room you sat in. A dim outline of a person stood at the bar door, staring in at you. Trying to squint through the darkness, trying to move closer, you attempted to see their face. But you came up short each time.
They spoke lowly, another dim figure appearing behind them. Their native tongue was opposite of yours, your attempts of that just as great as those before.
You we're scared, but intrigued. Two days on the ground brought more and more. This particular third day brought these grounders who found you outside of camp. They were hostile, that was apparent. But they were also people, or so you think.
A loud scream caught your attention, tearing you from your thought. The barred doors opened, a girl being thrown in, arms bound to the walls. She watched the guards leave, yelling profanities after them. You eyed the closely, making certain that you couldn't place her at your camp.
"Why are you here?" You asked her, hoping her being there would give you an idea about your being there."I-i was starving. The bread was right there, and- stealing can be punishable by death. I was lucky it was just bread." She responded, deep green eyes turned to the ground.
"I'm Grayce."
"Lexa."
Neither slept that night, they stayed up and talked, not that there was much else to do they got to know each other pretty well in such short time. Lexa told stories of the ground, and you told of space, which she found entirely fascinating.
Weeks later, Lexa disappeared. But you were stuck in the small room, all alone, bound up to the wall. Day after day, the grounders dropped a tray of slop in front of you, but that was the most human contact you received.
Until one day.
The room was illuminated by various lights, seven faces lighting up the way. Three stood on each side as a man walked over to you. He stood tall, peering down at you, not saying a single word. Gripping the chains tightly, he pulled you to your feet, pulling out a key and unlocking you.
"I don't understand." You muttered, rubbing your raw wrists. But he stayed silent, all of them did. Gently grabbing your arm, he led you past the six men, down long stone halls, and finally you stood outside of a room. All seven men stalled, one slowly pushing the doors open. Creaking as they swing forth, the man pulled you past the wooden doors, into the candle lit room.
At the front, on an informal throne sat a woman, black pain smudged intricately across her face. She wore armour, but not just common soldier armour, she held the very aurora of commander.
Yet she was a so-called common thief that was locked up in the same cage you were. She was the one person you had to talk to, a human being that did more than drop a tray full of slop at your feet. And now here she was, cleaned up, and dressed as commander.
"You all may leave." She announced, the group of guards turning to flee the room, leaving the two alone. Lexa kept your gaze, your mouth falling open as you tried to come up with something to say.
"I had to learn of these new sky people first hand." Lexa told you, letting out a low sigh, hands folding in front of her. "But most of what I told you was true, those stories."
"Why am I here?"
"I want you to come to my home, Polis, with me. It's not far from here."
"Why?"
"They have given up looking for you, it didn't take long for them to have." Lexa stated, eyeing you up and down. Your lips pursed, head bowing. In the beginning, you had hope. But apparently that hope hadn't even mattered. "I like you, Grayce. You're the type of person I could use by my side."
"What type of person is that?"
"Optimistic. Strong. Sweet. A good story teller." Lexa had moved from her seat to your side, gently taking your hand. Brows raised, she peered down at you. "Please, you will get anything you ask for, within reason of course."
"Why not." You laughed to yourself, the reality not quite setting in. Lexa grinned down at you, joy apparent in her eyes. She pulled you into a hug, before pulling you along to her throne, beginning to fill your ear with more stories as she readied for her journey home to Polis.
