Snow's POV

I skidded to a halt when I reached the stairs, my eyes scanning the area. I saw Kim, laying on the ground, blood pooling around her, Garroth protecting her from one of the wolves, trickles of red staining his jumper. Then I saw Lucinda, standing still, face to face with another wolf, powerless without her staff. There is a girl at the door...she must be a werewolf if she can control these wolves...I will have to hide my werewolf side if I am to have any chance of saving them... I hid my ears and tail within a heartbeat, and turned to Aaron, who was trying to push past. I pushed him back and shook my head. "Snow? What are you doing? We have to help them!" I looked at the floor, since he had studied werewolves, he would know my plan is wreckless and might not turn out so well for me. "I'm going to try and talk to the wolves. I think they are omega, or are at least young enough to not be sure of what they should do. However, the wolf which is attacking...I will need to fight it and make it back off before I can communicate. I want you to follow once the wolf is away and try and help Kim and Garroth...make sure they are safe. Ill distract them." Aaron was going to argue, but changed his mind when he realised there was no time. I waited for the right time. When it was time, I nodded to Aaron, and then leapt forward.

The wolf which was attack Garroth was just about to attack again, and I could tell he was tired and in great pain. He was too weak to defend himself anymore, and he had lost a lot of blood, but not as much as Kim, who was still lying on the ground. Aaron was ready. Anger crawled its way into my mind as the wolf swiped a paw at Garroth. I jumped down from the top of the stairs, landing infront of him and blocking its claws. It hit my shoulder with force, making it sting but I pushed the pain away.

I crouched down, putting my body into a position which made myself look more powerful. I leapt towards the wolf but he batted me away against the wall. Recovering quickly, I growled. Even as a human without my werewolf side showing, the wolves new who I was. He let his guard down slightly, trying to inspect me. I didn't stop to question this, I leapt forward again, shoving the wolf backwards. The power and swiftness of my attack stunned the wolf just long enough for me to sort out the other one. I heard Aaron bolt behind me towards Garroth and Kim. Racing forward, I grabbing the smaller wolf and swung it away. Grasping hold of Lucinda's staff, I threw it to her, and she instantly nodded and ran over to try and help Garroth and Kim as much as possible. Now it's my turn...let's hope my plan works...

The human girl who stood at the door looked stunned. I kneeled down infront of the wolves, my head bowing slightly.
They looked at each other for moment before nodding to me. They understood I had been protecting my friends, and since we all smelled similar, they saw us a pack. Without anymore fuss, they bowed their heads and went back to their leader. I could see by the way they were acting towards her, she was not their alpha. The girl stared at me for a second, tilting her head slightly. I got the sense that she was confused by me, like I was a question she couldn't quite find the answer too. Then she turned and lead the wolves away.

Silence crept over the lodge as I got up and made my way back to the others. Kim was sat on the couch and Aaron was applying wet strips of cloth to her wounds. She seemed fine, although I could sense she was shaken up quite a bit. Lucinda was leaning over Garroth, trying to stop as much of the bleeding as possible, however he had multiple wounds spread all over. I knelt down beside him and started to help with the smaller wounds. He looked exhausted and I think he was unconscious. Pushing back his greasy sandy blonde hair I kissed his forehead gently. Lucinda was looking at me, like she wanted to say something but didn't know if she should. "If you want to ask me something Lucinda, just go ahead. I'm not someone who takes offence to things and I want to be open with everyone." She stumbled over her words. When she finally spoke, she seemed distracted. "Well, I was wondering who that girl was. Do you know her? And I also wanted to thank you for protecting me, Kim and Garroth. I know you got hurt but you still did it...why? I dont understand how you can be a werewolf and be so fine with protecting humans and living as a human...and you even get hurt to save them...I always thought it was because of the fact you loved a human...but now I think otherwise..." she looked embarrassed but it was a perfectly honest question to which I gave a perfectly honest answer. "I don't have a clue who that girl is, but I know for sure she isn't a werewolf. And...the reason I protect humans is...because of my dad...he...did something...terrible to a human...and he spent the rest of his life after that, protecting them...until he died saving a family of humans. I followed on what he did...and I always feel closer to humans than I do werewolves...well apart from my sister Gemma...because I was forced to live as a human my whole life until now. But no matter what happens, I know all people are different, and I will never stop protecting them is there is some way I can." Lucinda looked satisfied and less embarrassed at her question.

The next hour was spent in silence...well...until Garroth woke up of course...hehe...

Lucinda got up from her seat and walked over the the door. "We need to go to the town tomorrow, we need medical supplies since the little we have only just managed to stop the majority of the bleeding of both Kim and Garroth. We still need to sort out the wounds Snow has." I shook my head, bearing the pain. "I'm fine Lucinda, we just need to think about Kim and Garroth, they are hurt more badly" she rolled her eyes at my modesty but didn't reply.

During the night I lay back on top of my sleeping bag, wide awake while the others slept, my mind racing. Who was that girl? What did she want with us? Maybe these questions will be answered when we go to the town tomorrow. My eyes were heavy with sleep, and after a while, I drifted off, my dreams haunted by pain as I tossed and turned. No matter what I told myself, the battle wounds I had received hurt more than I would show. I tossed and turned, the pain getting the better of me, until I felt two arms wrap around me waist and pull me closer. His body heat was calming and soon I drifted off again, my sleep not disturbed by anything.
