The next morning I couldn't look at anyone. I ran out of the house and didn't stop until I was at school. I used any distraction from my home life, school was a paradise comparatively. I was too scared to look any one in the eyes, I bowed my head and didn't speak, and before I knew it, I heard the last bell of the day.
All of the other kids were so excited for the weekend, smiling and running towards the doors to see their friends. Me on the other hand, I felt like crying. I wanted to stay at school forever; I never wanted to go home again. Sadly, I had no where to go. I had no friends; I separated me from the other kids. I was too scared to even think about what wold happen if someone came home with me. My father would beat me and do something awful to the poor girl I brought along.
I knew none of my family; my father never let me or my sister meet any of them. I couldn't tell anyone about my situation, because he threatened to kill us, and there was no doubt in my mind he would.
I started walking up the familiar road towards home. I took as long as I possibly could, but soon I was standing in our front yard. I went inside to see my father sitting at the table. "Hey honey, how are you?" He said as he looked up. I grabbed my waist and pulled me into his lap. "I missed you today. You left the house so fast I didn't have a chance to say goodbye." He said, still with his arm wrapped around my waist and kissed the corner of my lips. "I'm sorry Daddy. I promise it won't happen again." He smiled, but it faded as soon as my mother walked in the house. He stood up and I fell towards the floor.
"What the hell were you doing with her?" She screamed. My father walked across the kitchen and slapped her hard in the face. "Don't dare talk to me like that!" He yelled. My mother tried to hit him back, but he just grabbed her and threw her to the floor. Her head hit the wood with a thump and blood began pooling underneath. He jumped on her and began hitting her. I ran over to try to help her, but my father pushed me back again.
"Lillian! Get the hell out of here! Go to my bedroom!" I did as I was told this time. I walked across the bright kitchen and into his bedroom. I closed the door and sat on his bed, but something caught my eye. I got an envelope off of his nightstand; it was signed from his mother, my grandmother. It had her address and everything on it; if I ever had a chance to get away, it was now!
I grabbed my father's wallet from his dresser, some of my mom's clothes, and threw them in a bag. I ran towards the window. I opened it and threw all of the clothes out. I started to climb threw it when my father opened the door and looked around the room. His eyes rested on me, halfway out of the window. "Lillian! Get your *** back in this house!"
I threw myself the rest of the way, grabbed the clothes, and ran across the yard. I was a couple houses down when I saw our car coming full speed at me. My father was driving and I could see him yelling for me to come back. He got closer and closer, speeding up as he came; I jumped of the side of the road and slide down a ditch, I got a few scratches and scrapes, but I knew I had to keep going.
I heard the car door slam and my father get out. "Lillian! Get back here right now! If I catch you I am going to ******* kill you!" I knew he was telling the truth, and even if he didn't catch me I knew he would make my mother and sister pay. I ran into the woods, I went as fast as I could go, but my father was faster than I was. I dashed behind a tree, looking for anything to hide me. It was almost completely black, the trees that hung overhead made a canopy, blocking out any sunlight that still remained.
I heard his footsteps stop, and then I heard him start laughing.
"I want to see you try to live without me! You'll die out here! I'll just go home and replace you with your sister! I hope you do die, you were never but my sex toy and I have another one. Good luck!" I heard his laughter grow quieter and quieter. I started crying for my sister, I knew what she was about to go through. I had to get to my grandmother's house as soon as I could, she could help me save my sister and mother.
For now, I had to just keep walking. I had to keep telling myself everything would be wonderful someday.
