I didn't know that Ben came back outside until he started talking.
"Okay lovers, time to go." He started walking towards the car, wanting us to follow.
"What happened to her dad?" Landon asked as he out his arm around my waist.
"The better question is what happened to ours. He told me where he was and now we are going to go and get him. Let's hit the road shall we?" I could see the pain on Ben's face. He was worried, he wasn't telling us everything.
Landon didn't seem to notice. He gently pulled me over to the car, "But where's her father?" He asked.
Ben was frustrated, just wanting to leave I guess. "Passed out and locked inside a closet. Good enough for you?"
He nodded and opened my door. "So where is he?"
"In her grandmother's barn. We have to make a stop before we go there though. Don't ask where, it's a surprise." He smiled at Landon as he stomped on the gas, sending us away from my house.
After driving for a little while, Landon fell asleep with his head in my lap.
"So, Ben. Can I ask you something?" I asked, playing with Landon's hair, trying not to look at Ben.
"You can, but I don't know if you'll get an answer." I could hear the smile in his voice.
"Um, why did you come back to the house?" My voice shook. I wasn't sure if it was a question that Ben would just answer get mad about, but I had to know.
"I wanted to know where my father was, and I doubted you would ask him that. Plus, I had to do it for Landon." He saw the confusion on my face and explained. "He probably would have killed himself or something stupid if anything were to happen to you." I flinched at the thought of that. "It's kind of like, um, what's his name? The sparkly vampire? Edward! Yeah, he's like Edward, he would have killed himself if something happened to Bella, that's you." He started laughing at his comparison.
"Well thank you. So where are we going?" I asked, trying not to laugh too.
"I already said it was a surprise. You guys are not patient are you? Whatever, I'm not good at keeping secrets. We are going to mom's house. I want to see if Dahlia and mom are okay or if your psycho daddy did anything to them. No offense."
"Did he say anything about them?" I asked.
His hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, turning his knuckles white under the pressure. "He said some things about Dahlia. He's a real pervert, you know that?"
"Believe me, I know."
"If he touched my sister at all, I'll kill him. I almost did when said that stuff."
I nodded. "I wished you killed him anyways. He deserves it for everything he's done."
"Well, I thought that that might upset you." He turned and smiled at me.
"Since when do you care what upsets me?" I meant it to sound joking, but it came out more accusing.
"Since I started to like you." He said with another smile.
