One Shot Stories

XXXVI ~ The Maze

Run, run, run. I pump my legs faster and faster, determined to get away from the thing chasing me. I turn a corner, sliding on the dirt ridden ground, running into a wall. Getting tangled in the vines, I hear the thing get closer. I struggle against the over grown plants.

"What are you doing? Come on!" Min shouts.

I struggle more against the vines.

"I can't!" I grit out.

Fear etched into her features, she runs back to me and cuts the vines away. whatever is chasing us, lets out a horrific cry behind us. A noise escapes the back of my throat as I turn and run along with Min.

"What the hell is that thing?" I yell.

Min's breaths come out in short huffs.

"I don't know! I guess we'll have to ask." She replies breathlessly as we turn another corner.

I shoot her a look. We turn another corner and almost run into a dead end. I skid to a stop and look up at the giant stone wall. Min huffs and bends over. I slap her.

"What are you doing? We need to kill that thing!" I shout in her ear.

    Min frowns but straightens anyways. Whatever that thing is, it slithers slowly towards us. It's crimson scales shining in the moonlight. A forked tongue flicks out, teasing the air. It's ginormous shadow looms over us, shrouding the two of us in darkness.

"Well, I didn't bring my pack-" Min starts but the tongue, as fast as lightening, comes out and wraps around her waist.

    Min screams as she disappears into the mouth of the beast. I gulp as it comes closer. Again, the beast opens its mouth and covers me with it. I scream and blackness over comes my being.

"Wake up! We've got to go into the Maze!" I hear.

    I open an eye and see Min. I scramble up.

"No."

    Min frowns.

"What do you mean 'no'?"
"I... I don't feel good."

    Min nods.

"Okay. I'll go get someone else then. Feel better." She says to me, walking away to find someone else.

    I slouch and lay back on my hammock.

"Annalise, come on," Shell says, coming up to me minutes after Min and someone else enters the Maze. "We need to get you to the infirmary."
"Okay." I say quietly.

    I'm working in the fields when someone screams and points the the opening of the Maze. I look up. Someone stumbles through. Blood covers her face and arms.

"Help! Someone go help Min!" She cries.

    I peek up at Min's name. I run over and catch her as she collapses.

"Where's Min?" I ask, lowering her to the ground.
"Got eaten by the beast that roams around in there at night. Came out in mid-day." She whimpers.

    I gasp and look up. A scream resonates through the Maze and is suddenly cut off.

Based off of the Maze Runner. I love the books a lot. I guess this is based off of Group B. Oh, and sorry I haven't updated in 4 days. I have been takin a babysitting course. I am now an official, certified babysitter. How cool is that?
