"I'm gonna be stuck here for hours." Allana said as we wheeled her in the hospital room.
"Love, it's for your safety." I said
"How is it for my safety? Carmela won't shoot me anymore! Austin took care of it."
Wow, she's extra talkative and cranky.
"I know, you're mad-"
"Mad? Harry! I'm angry. If it weren't that my hand was on a sling I would-"
"Love, calm down."
"I can't calm down! My son, whom I have held for literally a few hours is at Buckingham Palace, with people who is not his mother! He should be with me, in my arms!"
"Love, please?"
I'm trying my best to keep my calm here. She's literally on fighting mode.
"Please what? My whole body is painful! My fucking bloody shoulder got shot, I just gave birth,my neck hurts from-"
"Love, breathe!"
"You best know that I can't while I'm mad."
"Breathe before I get mad!"
"You? Why would you get mad?"
"Because I would pretty much love it if we were at home, watching our son sleep! And you just got shot and now we're having an argument!"
"It's not my fault I got shot!"
"It's not and I'm not blaming you!"
"But I did anyway! I got shot by my sister and who the fucking hell made her enter that place! I thought everybody was on high alert!"
"Everybody was!"
"And still, what was supposed to be the safest place in England was attacked by an armed woman!"
I breathed.
"I would investigate on that later."
"Later? Why not now?"
"Because like you, I'm also stuck here for 24 hours, 24 long hours away from my son-"
"He's my son. Don't you forget that."
"What?"
"You only gave me 23 chromosomes to build him, I carried him for 9 months and went through labour and-"
"I was there the whole time!"
"Then I'll give you 23% credit."
"Love, you are not making any sense."
"Maybe, but that 23% made you flinch a little."
I shook my head.
"Is this your version of post-partum?"
"Depression will come, I mean I got shot after giving birth. People are coming after me."
At least she wasn't shouting any more, it was progress.
"Carmela has been taken care of, no need to worry."
"I need to be with my son, Harry."
"Yes, yes, but we need to tend to your needs first-"
"I need to be with him. He needs me."
"You can't tend to his needs whilst your weak."
"I am not weak, have you seen me talking to everyone?"
She wasn't talking to everyone.
She was ordering everyone and arguing with everyone.
It was a weird combination of post-partum hormonal episodes plus anaesthetics.
"Yes, I have. And believe me, the whole VIP wing did. They're probably talking about it now."
She glared at me.
"What? They're talking about how I'm acting out?"
"Probably! I don't know what happened after I left you to be fixed!"
"Oh my god!"
"And I don't know if I could do any more damage control-"
"Who cares about damage control!"
"I do! Love, my family is in enough warm waters because of your family!"
Oh my god, what did I just say?
"What did you just say?" She said
"I'm pretty sure you heard me!"
"It's not my fault I'm even in your damn family!"
"Here we go again!" I said
"If you're gonna stay here arguing with me, instead of letting me sleep, might as well-"
"You're the one who started it!"
"Why don't you just go home and do some damage control?"
"What, and leave you here alone?"
"Better leave me alone than to argue with me."
"I'm not leaving you alone here."
"Why not?"
"Because you are in a critical condition."
"Critical?"
"You almost died!"
"Don't you think I know that?"
"I'm not going home."
"Then don't."
I grabbed my phone and asked my brother for a FaceTime, and he answered.
"Hey, what's up?" He said
"We're fine."
"Did she make it?" He asked
"Yes, we would just be staying here in the hospital for a few hours. To be sure." I replied
"Her brother and his family would be staying with us for a while."
I nodded.
"Do you want to see the baby?" He said
Kate was holding my son in the background.
I looked at Allana.
"Love?" I said
She looked at me.
"Do you wanna see him?"
She frowned.
I waved her the phone.
I didn't wait for her reply and stood next to her.
"We'd like to see him." I said to William.
"Got it, Kate?" He said
And then our baby was on the screen.
"Here he is, love."
And then Allana started crying.
She held the phone with her good hand and I put my arm on her shoulder and she leaned onto me for support.
I started crying too, our son was sleeping soundly, looking all so peaceful.
"He could still hear right?" Allana said
"Yes, he's fine." I said
"How about his kids?" She said
"Huh?" I said
"Your brother's kids." She said
"Oh! They're fine. They got out of the room just in time." Kate said
Allana nodded.
"I would like to apologise to both of you, in behalf of the Kavanagh family. I'm really sorry that you all got into this mess with my-"
"We needed a little drama too." William said
It was too much drama.
I let her rest for a while after that phone call.
And I just sat there, looking at her.
With all the things that could have happened in our life, she gets shot by her sister as we welcome home our son.
I'm actually glad that she decided to sleep because I'm sure that she's tired.
I think she did have an argument with half of the hospital or something.
She's so angry a while ago.
But, she's mine.
I held her good hand. I noticed that my hand was stained with her blood.
It's gonna take days before these stains go.
My trousers were also stained with blood, not a good day to wear beige ones.
My watch also has blood stains-
I think I am covered with bloodstains.
We didn't deserve this.
She didn't deserve this.
"I love you." I said to her.
