Harry's Perspective
Hangover headache sucks
I opened my eyes to see the drapes heavily closed.
And I am alone in the bed.
Where is Allana?
What time is it?
The bedside clock tells me that it's 10 am.
And knowing Allana, she should have woken me up three hours ago.
I tried my best to stand up.
And walked to Allana's couch.
And she's there, reading the morning paper.
" Oh, good, you're up, and about. " she said without looking at me.
" Good morning. " I said as I kissed her forehead.
Normally, that would make her smile and blush, but not today.
Not even a smile nor a blush.
What did I do?
Am I in trouble?
" Hey, wanna get some breakfast? " I said
" Just ate. " she said
Something's definitely up.
" Well, I'm starving. " I said
" Go get something from downstairs. Eat. "
" You're not gonna-"
Allana and I are having a conversation without her looking at me.
I definitely did something.
" Hon, did I do something-"
Now she was looking at me.
She has her looks could kill-look.
" Did you do something? " she said
Her voice is raising.
" I just asked that. " I said
" Would you like to tell me what were you doing last night in Wycombe? " she said
Oh.
Uh-oh.
I am in so much trouble.
What was I doing in Wycombe?
" Well, Henry, I'm waiting. " she said
" I was off to meet some friends. " I said
" Friends? " she said
" Yeah, they invited me for a few drinks. " I said
" A few? A few means, a little, and from what I saw last night, you didn't drink a little. "
" It got out of hand. "
" Henry, I took a long nap, and I woke up, to find that you are missing, and Austin and I were freaking out for like three hours. And then, you miraculously called me, drunk, saying that you needed to be fetched. So, we did, with your brother. And then you threw up on us. Tell me that's a few. Might I add, you called at about two in the morning"
Allana's red with rage.
" I don't know how to explain that. " I said
" You threw up on the car. On me and on William. And then, I was the one who cleaned you up! And then, now, Austin's scrubbing the whole car and could you please tell me about the friends? " she said
" Friends? "
" Yes, the ones that you were with last night. "
" It was just a bunch of old colleagues in college. "
She frowned and stood up from the couch.
" College? " she said
She took one step closer to me, and I took one step back.
" You didn't go to college. " she said
Shit.
I didn't go to college.
And then she handed the paper to me.
And I took it.
I'm headlines.
Me.
" So, friends in college huh? What make-shift university did you go into? " she said
The photo.
Some bloody bloke took a photo of me and my drinking buddy last night.
That drinking buddy was my ex, Cressida, in each others arms, dancing.
How do I explain this?
Pictures are worth a thousand words.
Allana just stood there.
" Allana, I-"
" Is there something you want to tell me? Regarding our marriage? Do you want to call it quits? Am I not enough? Just tell me, and I'd be glad to sign the papers, just don't ever fucking go behind my back. " she said
" Allana-"
Tears are welling up her eyes.
And I'm surprised that tears are also in my eyes.
" If there is something wrong, I cannot have and cannot afford to bring this child in this world wherein he will later find out that-"
" Allana, I can explain. "
" Are you sure? " now she was shouting.
I think I can understand her fury.
I cannot explain this, honestly.
Last night was a blur.
Everything just came.
She just looked at me.
" About the pub thing. " she said
" I couldn't remember. " I said
She was looking at me in the eyes.
Her rage is the same as Carmela's.
Or maybe even worse.
" So, you are telling me that you don't remember anything from last night? " she said
I swallowed.
" No, honestly. " I said
" So, you don't know if something happened to you and her? "
I didn't reply.
" So, if she tells the press that last night was the best sex she ever had, you have no idea if it's true or not?" she said
I opened my mouth, but closed it again, because I could find the right words to say.
She's really angry.
I looked at the wall clock.
Shite.
It's not ten am!
It's one pm!
" Am I boring you? " she said
" No, honey. " I said as I took one step closer to her, to console her.
She took a step back.
" Bullshit. " she said as she went to the door and left the room.
