Pokémon: Shadow & Light/Coex Adventures

1: Hoenn to Coex

Drayko was resting on his bed, looking out the window and gazes at Slateport City's lit buildings and shining sea. He was a guy that wanted to have an adventure, but his overprotective mother always held him back. Today however, will change his life.

There was silence in the whole house. Suddenly, there was a quiet feminine groan coming from somewhere. Drayko thought somebody broke into their home and got up slowly, picking up one of his baseball bats. "Who's there?", Drayko said nervously. There were taps coming from within the walls of his bedroom. Drayko went to investigate and stood right in front of the wall. The tapping stops.

"The hell...", Drayko thought to himself. Then, without warning, a dark blue face with a shrieking expression emerges out the wall and scares the hell out of Drayko, making him fall to the ground. That prankster was a Misdreavus, a Pokémon under the ownership of Drayko's mother.

Drayko stands up and faces the Misdreavus. "What the hell is wrong with you! You scared the crap out me!", Drayko yelled at her. Misdreavus chuckles and cuddles her misty body at Drayko's side. "Aww...I can't stay mad at you".

There was somebody rushing up the stairs. Drayko recognized this stomp. A woman suddenly charges inside the bedroom with a worried look. She was slim and had her brown hair up in a bun. It was Drayko's mother.

"Drayko, my baby! Are you okay?!", Drayko's mother asked while hugging her son tightly in her arms.

"Yeah mom. I'm definitely okay after Misdreavus scared me and could've gave me a heart attack".

"Oh honey. Ghost Pokémon play pranks like that, but they don't want to hurt you". Mom turns to Misdreavus. "And you. Do not try to scare Drayko like that again!".

Drayko plops back onto the bed and takes out a book. "What are you reading?", Mom asked.

"I'm studying the known regions. One region I'm very interested in is the Coex Region". Drayko got deeper into his book.

"The Coex Region...your uncle lives there. He's the region's professor!".

"What do you know about the region, mom?".

"There isn't much I could tell you sweetie".

There is a sudden ring coming from the phone downstairs. Mom rushes down the stairs to get it. She picks up the phone "Hello? Oh, it's you Arbor. I'm doing quite well. No, Drayko doesn't have a Pokémon, why do you ask? Hm...he is very interested in Coex. You would do that? That's great! I'll let him know". The conversation ends and mom hangs up the phone. Mom calls for Drayko and he arrives downstairs shortly.

"Your uncle called and he wants you to come visit his lab in Jaynoos City. I think it's best if you went". Mom smiles at Drayko.

Drayko stared at his mother, shocked that she would let him go over 100 feet away for once. "Y-You want me to go to the Coex Region..?", Drayko said, still confused and making sure he isn't hearing it wrong. Mom nodded.
Drayko walked slowly to mom and grabbed her in for a hug. "Thank you...", Drayko whispered in mom's ear.

Misdreavus floats over to join the hug. "I'll miss you too", Drayko said, smiling as he tries to pat her on the head but his hand goes right through.
"She's gonna miss you too, son. We all will". Then, Mom started to cry a little. Mom wiped away her tears and smiles. "You should go to bed. You've got a big day tomorrow".

=the next morning=

Drayko was just beginning to wake up. As he opened his eyes, he saw Misdreavus come face to face with Drayko. He screamed in shock and falls out of bed. "Drayko, come downstairs to eat breakfast. I don't want you to miss the boat!", mom shouted from downstairs. "Gee, thanks for the wake up", Drayko said to Misdreavus sarcastically.

Drayko quickly put on a black T-shirt and khaki shorts and grabbed the backpack filled with everything he needs for the trip. He looks in the mirror and smiles with determination in his eyes.

"I said hurry up!", mom yelled.

Drayko rushed downstairs, not paying attention. Suddenly, he looses his footing and he is about to fall head first at the downstair's kitchen cold, hard, tiled floor. Drayko closes his eyes, waiting for the impact. He doesn't feel himself fall and opens his eyes and sees himself floating an inch off the floor. He looks at Misdreavus and her eyes are a glowing cyan in color. Drayko falls lightly to the floor unharmed.

"Thank you for using psychic", Mom said as she rewards Misdreavus with a pecha berry. Drayko had a shocked look on his face and mom places a plate of pecha berry pancakes on the table. "Eat up sweetie. The boat to Coex will be here in an hour".

Drayko sat down and quickly ate his food. Drayko always loved mom's cooking. It's something Drayko is going to miss.

=50 minutes later=

Drayko arrives at Slateport City's docks. People are already boarding the boat. Drayko began to walk up the steps to the boat, and he feels a slight tug at the back of his shirt. It was his crying mother holding him back. "Promise me...that you will keep yourself safe".

Drayko nodded and gave her a hug. Drayko then boarded the ship, not looking back. He is on top of the deck, looking at the whole city. His mom is faintly seen at the bottom with Misdreavus. The ghost Pokémon floats up to Drayko to give him a gentle hug. As the ship began to move, Misdreavus descends down to mom, and they both wave goodbye.

Drayko goes to the deck on the opposite side of the ship and looks at the almost infinite ocean, not another boat or landmass to be seen on the horizon. "Coex here I come...", Drayko thought to himself, trying to smile. As the ship became more distant with Hoenn, so did the mother and son. Drayko rushed to the opposite deck to quickly glance at Slateport City, but it was too late. Only the ocean mist covers Drayko's sight.

Drayko heads to his quarters and plops himself onto the uneven bed, and closes his eyes. He tries to imagine all the new Pokémon he'll meet. All the new people he'll meet. Drayko emotions are now a mixture of excitement for Coex and sad for leaving his mother...

=1 day later=

Drayko noticed that the ship stopped moving. He looked out his window and sees a rather advanced looking city, more futuristic than the city of Slateport. Drayko exits the ship and smells the fresh air. It smells much cleaner and fresher. He faintly sees a holographic projection that says "Welcome to the Coex Region!". Drayko smiles and takes his first step onto the region's concrete ground.
