Hell everyone and welcome back. In this section I'm going to talk about the movie Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster. Which also goes by the name Ebirah Horror of the Deep. This one I feel gets kind of a bad rap. I've always enjoyed this one since I was little and would watch it on my goodtimes VHS copy that I had.

On a side note if you're going to watch this movie in it's English version

On a side note if you're going to watch this movie in it's English version. Do yourself a favor and only watch this version (in English) as the international dub that's on the DVD's is awful and is one of the worst dubs of a movie I have ever seen. It actually hurts to listen to it lol. But, if you watch it in Japanese you should be fine.

Anyways, first a little history on this film. Originally this movie was supposed to star King Kong and not Godzilla. But, eventually the idea was changed to have Godzilla take his place. Hence why Godzilla shares a lot of the characteristics of Kong in the movie such as getting woken up by lightning (which was what gave Kong additional power in King Kong vs Godzilla).

So the plot of this movie involves a group of people who steal a boat looking for another characters brother where they stumble across an evil army known as the red bamboo that have been enslaving the people of Mothra's island. Oh and they can't escape due to the sea monster known as Ebirah. Oh and Godzilla's in it too! Along with Mothra and a giant condor!

So yeah you get the idea. This movie was directed by Jun Fukuda (directing his first of five Godzilla films). Masaru Sato who did the music for Godzilla Raid again came back to do the music for this movie. I do love the music in this movie it reminds me of James Bond a bit.

Anyways, for this movie and the one after that have Godzilla out on an island and not setting foot on the mainland of Japan. (Godzilla vs the sea monster, and Son of Godzilla). This was done for budgeting reasons and I guess it provided a nice change of pace for the series.

As far as the monster battles in this one go they range from decent to ok

As far as the monster battles in this one go they range from decent to ok. It is cool to see Godzilla battle in the sea. I love the moment where they start playing volleyball. I thought that was pretty funny.

But, there are some bad parts to this movie too. The battle with the Giant Condor is the worst fight in the entire series. It comes right out of nowhere and is shot terribly. You can't even tell what's going on!

As far as Mothra's role goes. I guess Mothra was busy taking a nap the entire time and only woke up after an obscene amount of praying in order to help rescue the islanders.

In the end though the characters all come together to escape, Godzilla kills Ebirah, the Red Bamboo is destroyed (and is never heard from again). Then Mothra shows up and Godzilla blasts her with his atomic breath as if to say "what are you doing stealing my spotlight?"

Then the movie ends with the Island being blown up and Godzilla performing an awesome cannonball to close out the movie showing that he escaped the blast and everyone is happy

Overall, is say this one is pretty enjoyable. I watched this one a lot when I was very little and this is one I might put on occasionally. It definitely feels different from the earlier films in the series but that's mostly due to the setting and the Island setting. Which is not really that big of a problem to me. Anyways I hope you all enjoyed reading this and I look forward to talking about Son of Godzilla next!

A/N: Oh and by the way Shin Godzilla came out on blu-ray here in the United States so do yourself a favor everyone and check it out!
