Chapter 18 - Silver Car

An early phone call woke me up from my deep slumber. Sino ba tong tumatawag na to? Antok na antok pa ko eh!

Pagtingin ko ng phone, si Don Demetrius Zamora ang tumatawag, Elijah's grandfather. Ever since na maaksidente ko noong high school ako, tinuring na ako ng mga Zamora at Torres na part ng family nila.

Years passed and Elijah became my best friend aside from Pamela. He treated me as like his own sister. Vienna and Sierra also treated me like their own younger sister.

"Nakita mo na ba?" tanong ni Don Demetrius sa phone.

Hindi ko ineexpect na ang isang powerful na tao na tulad niya ay magiging kaibigan ko din. He insisted to call him Lolo Demmy.

"Good morning to you too, old man. Anong sinasabi mo? Natutulog pa ang araw?"

"Hija, it is past ten in the morning. Wake up and check your front door."

I have a feeling that the old man has a surprise for me, he always does. I will be finally graduating with a degree in Psychology in a few hours. Sobrang excited ko kaya lumabas ako ng bahay para mag check kung may delivery ako galing sa kanya.

"Wala naman kahit ano dito ah? Akala ko pa naman reregaluhan mo ko ng powerbank from Lazada."

Disappointed ako na umupo sa porch namin. I felt like a zombie being awakened from a decade of sleep. Madalas kasi may regalo sa akin si Lolo Demmy. Mostly, mga simpleng bagay lang tumblers and mugs kasi sinabi ko sa kanya na ayoko ng mahal na regalo. At the same time, pinagbabake ko siya ng mga small artistic cake at gustong gusto niya.

"Did you sleep well last night or did you spend hours talking on the phone with Elijah?"

"Tumawag siya kagabi, he keeps blabbering about his new girlfriend. Alam mo ba na nasa Beijing siya ngayon at di siya makapunta sa graduation day ko? I hate him! Ever since binigay mo sa kanya yung empire mo, wala na siya oras sa akin. Kasalanan mo yan, old man."

"He is in Beijing for a business trip. And yes, I have heard the new addition to his collection," sagot ni Don Demetrius sa phone. Aside from Elijah, this old man is my closest friend.

"Well, the thing is, he is serious with this lady. Mukha naman masaya yung apo mo."

"And why do you sound so sad? Aren't you supposed to be happy for him? You are like his best friend, his younger sister."

"Duh? Alam mo naman na mahal ko yung apo mo at pinagnanasahan ko siya. I don't see him like a brother. Alam ko nag promise ako na aalagaan ko siya, mamahalin ko siya for the rest of my life pero this is different. I think she's in love with Monica."

"You really think so?"

"With brains and beauty like her, an average looking girl like me does not even have a slightest match for her. Aware ako sa mga naging girlfriends ni Elijah, pero this time, he is so happy talking about his relationship with this girl. Haisst! Kung maganda at sexy lang sana ko, inakit ko na si Elijah."

I am sure Lolo Demmy heard that my voice is already broken. I have been crying last night because of Elijah.

Pero hindi ako pwedeng maging makasarili, di ko pag-aari si Elijah!

Well, actually I can!

I just have to destroy their fantastic relationship so Elijah can be mine. I just need to come up with the best evil masterplan. Bwahaha! Evil Laugh!

"Darling, are you still here?" tanong ni Lolo Demmy after a long silence.

"Yes, old man. I am still here."

"Are you thinking about the evil ways you can try to separate Elijah from Monica?"

"Grabe ka naman! Ok fine, you can surely read minds, old man. You should invest your tremendous money in fortune telling shit business."

"Wag mo na isipin muna si Elijah ngayon. I want you to look directly in front of you. Is there anything out of the ordinary?"

"Yes, there is a freaking car parked in front of our house. Dito pa sa tapat namin nag park ang walanghiya!"

"Good girl. Now, go inside. There is small box on top of the dining table."

Sinunod ko si Lolo Demmy and I found a small pink box on top of the table. Binuksan ko ang box and I found a car key.

"Ano sa tingin mo?" the old man asked after a few seconds of silence.

"OMG! Sa akin ba yung kotse? Old man! This is, this is, wow!"

"Yes, that is yours, my dear. Consider that your early graduation gift. I hope small gifts like that can mend your broken heart."

Tumakbo palabas para tignan ang bago kong kotse. It was a new Toyota model in silver color. I opened the door and there is a big box of chocolates. A signature gift from Lolo Demmy.

"Hey, old man. Salamat ah? Kahit naman ibalik ko sayo yung kotse, di ka naman papayag. Promise, gagawa kita ng cute ng cake ulit."

"Don't mention it. That is the least I can do to mend the pain caused by my grandson."
