Chapter 33 - Personal Invitation

(POV Elijah)

Present day..

"Why can't you see how much I love you? How can you be so fucking dense?"

It has been more than three years and yet, her words are still etched in my mind. I was a wreck when she left me. I was a coward when I let her go. I cried so much, but it was not enough to bring her back. The guilt that is consuming me will be my burden forever.

"Daddy! Look who is here!"

"Lolo Demmy! Lolo Demmy!"

Little voices stopped me from drifting to other realm. My twins are my only source of strength. Sila lang ang reason kung bakit pa ko humihinga sa mga oras na to. Sa dami ng mali na ginawa ko, I don't think I deserve this happiness.

Mas minabuti ko na sa Pilipinas mag stay kaysa sa New York. Every street, every building, even every road reminds me of her. Si Vienna ang nagmamanage sa New York, si Lolo sa Seattle samantalang ako ang andito sa Pilipinas.

Voltaire and Vienne quickly ran towards my grandfather. They hugged him excitedly. I seldom see the old man since I became the CEO of his company. Yes, his company. He is the one who built it using his own sweat and blood.

"Elijah, it is good to see you, grandson. I can't believe my sweet angels are already grown up. Kadadating ko lang from Seattle. Pumunta lang ako sa ancestral house at dito na ko tumuloy.

"I missed you lolo and the twins too," I quickly hugged the old man.

It feels good to see him. Si Voltaire and Vienne and kambal kong anak. Si Sierra ang nagpangalan kay Voltaire at si Vienna naman ang nagbigay ng name ni Vienne. Since may dalawa ko kapatid na kambal, hindi na nakapagtataka na kambal din ang anak ko.

Both of my sisters are happily married now. Si Vienna wala pang anak sa asawa niya na si Migs samantalang si Sierra ay tatlong lalaki ang anak kay Harvey Weston.

"Are you busy?" tanong ni lolo.

Dito kami nakatira sa mansion niya sa ciudad. Si Matthew naman ang nasa probinsya kasama ang asawa niya na si Angeline. Si mommy at daddy naman ay nasa ancestral house ng aking Lolo Franco.

"I will make time for you, old man. Bakit may surprise visit na nagaganap?"

I motioned the nannies to take care of the twins. Lolo Demmy will not visit me without a valid reason ng gantong kaaga.

"You look better. Cass is probably taking good care of you."

He is referring to Cassandra, my current girlfriend. She is not the twin's mother. Their mother died years ago. At hindi ko maiwasan ang sisihin ang sarili ko sa pagkamatay niya.

"Ok naman si Cass. She's good with kids. The twins like her."

"Pero hindi mo siya mahal? Kung ikakasal man kayo, it will be for the benefit of the company. Elijah hindi mo kailangan na gawin yun kung hindi mo siya mahal. Si Sierra man ang paborito kong apo dahil napaka isip bata ng bunso niyo, pero sayo ko pinagkatiwala ang lahat ng pinaghirapan ko. I want you to be happy, apo."

I did not answer him, pero tama si Lolo Demmy. Hindi ko mahal si Cassandra. I think I found love ages ago, but I let her go. Palagi naman tama si lolo eh. He seems to see the world in a different perspective.

How can I deny it when this ancient man can see right through me? Ano sabi ni Kimmy sa kanya noon? Fortune teller daw si lolo at dapat mag-invest sa gantong business.

"Our marriage will be convenient. Cass loves the twins. What more can I ask for?" I said casually, a safe answer.

"That answers my question then," he smiled genuinely, pero I know this old man. He knows that I am lying.

But why does he looks so happy about it?

"Lolo, don't get me wrong, pero bakit andito ka? Napaka aga pa! Sabi nga ni Sierra noon, tulog pa ang mga manok. May problema ba?"

"I want to personally inform you that you should not miss my 75th birthday this weekend. Whatever business meeting you have, I don't care if it is a meeting with the King of Saudi Arabia, I want you to be there."

Something fishy is going on.

Is he going to announce my engagement to Cassandra on his birthday? Fuck, hindi pa ko ready.

Pero hindi din. Hindi naman nakikialam si lolo sa mga relationships ko with girls, except for one.

"Lolo, I am flattered dahil sa personal invitation mo. Hindi mo na kailangan pumunta dito dahil pupunta kami ng mga bata."
