Chapter 32 - Taffy

Ilang araw din ako nasa hospital and my parents are careful sa mga sasabihin nila sa akin. Parang ayaw nila ko bigyan ng balita na pwedeng maka apekto sa akin.

"Mommy, kailan tayo uuwi? I missed Taffy," tanong ko kay mommy. It took me a few days bago ko nakapag salita ng maayos.

"Taffy is a big girl now, baby. Simula ng maaksidente ka, dito na kami nagstay ng daddy mo sa New York para bantayan ka."

"Namissed kaya ako ni Taffy? Kilala pa kayo niya ko? Is she still fluffy?" tanong ko kay mommy.

I found out na almost four years na pala ko na nasa comatose state. Si daddy ko naman ay binigyan ng trabaho ni Luke Torres dito mismo sa New York para madali nila ko madalaw.

"Fluffy as ever. Dinadala ko siya dito during weekends. The staffs here love Taffy at natutulog siya palagi katabi mo."

"Mommy, di ba bawal ang pets dito?"

"Let us say that Taffy has connections."

Taffy is my white Great Pyrenees puppy. Well big dog na siya ngayon. Bigay siya ni Elijah sa akin as a graduation gift nung college pero iniwan ko siya kay mommy at daddy nang magtrabaho na ako sa New York. Madalas naman ako umuwi sa Pilipinas dahil nakikisabay ako kay Elijah.

Elijah, Elijah, Elijah. Why does my heart suddenly constricts when I remember you? Bakit parang gusto ko umiyak kapag naaalala kita?

"Mommy, ang tagal ng stay ko dito sa hospital. How did you and dad manage the hospital bill?"

"Don Demetrius Zamora helped us. He took care of everything."

"The old man? Damn, malaki pala utang ko sa kanya. Uhmmm... Any news about Elijah?" mahina kong tanong kay mommy.

Di ko na napigilan ang sarili ko sa pagtatanong. Elijah was my friend and my first love. He is the love of my life. And more than three years ago, I found out that his girlfriend was pregnant.

At shit! May nangyari nga pala sa amin ni Elijah bago siya ikasal! Ang harot ko!

"He's a billionaire now and the current CEO of their company."

"Come on. Spill it, mom. Kamusta na sila ni Monica? Malaki na siguro yung anak niya. My hibernation period is too long that I forgot I have feelings for that man."

Nope, hindi totoo. Charoterang palaka lang ako!

Just the mere sound of his name sends chill to my whole body. Kahit ilang taon ang lumipas, di pa rin nawawala ang feelings ko para sa kanya.

"Wala ka bang iba na naaalala?" tanong ni mommy.

"Ang huli ko na naalala ay buntis si Monica at ikakasal na sila. I remembered that I drowned my sorrows in alcohol during that phase. Oh shit, I was a mess during that time."

Elijah is my best friend and I truly love him. He is the only man I loved this way. He is the first thing I think of the moment I wake up and the last thing on my mind before I go to sleep. My world revolves around him.

Alam ko marami siya naging girlfriends noon. He introduced them all to me. Hindi niya lang alam para akong hinihiwa ng knife dahan dahan kapag kasama niya ang mga girlfriends niya.

"After that, wala ka na ba naaalala? Sa inyo ni Elijah?"

I closed my eyes and tried to unearth any memories, but nothing. Parang hanggang doon lang ang kaya ng memory powers ko.

"Wala na mommy. Ang alam ko lang ikakasal na si Elijah, pero after noon wala na ko maalala, but I remember the actual explosion. Weird! Is there anything that I need to remember?"

"Magpahinga ka na muna. The doctors said that there is a great chance that your memory will be back, but we must take one step at a time."
