"Kita, you're up" Ms. Camacho said

A small groan emitted from me as I grabbed my navy blue notebook, standing up from my seat and walking to the front of the classroom. Letting out a small breath, I opened the book, turning to the page of my poem, we were on a new topic of pain and saviors, which actually fit perfectly with the twins and I because of our past.

"Just a reminder, this weeks theme is pain and saviors" she said to the class "it could be creative, but it could also be from the heart. Kita, please tell us the title, how long you've worked on it and what it means to you. You may begin"

"The title of the poem is 'In The Darkest Corner, No Longer'" I said, looking down at my notebook "I've worked on it for the past week and . . . I feel it tells people that there's always a savior in your darkest time, no matter your thoughts"

I looked up at the class, seeing everyone looking at me, the twins giving me a thumbs up and Nik giving me a nod, causing me to let out a low breath as I looked back at my notebook.

"There she sits, curled up, in the darkest corner of the room
Hiding from those who seek to cause her harm
Fear coursing through her veins, knowing her foredoom
Those who were supposed to be protectors are the cause of her emotional swarm
All she seeks is to be free
To run, laugh and smile with glee" I said, swallowing thickly and glancing up

I had noticed I gained the attention of those who were on their phones, Nala had pulled on her leash slightly, and I pushed my glasses up, looking back down at my notebook.

"Bruised and broken, she feels
The pain, never ending
Wanting to give up, to take the devil's offered deals
Those she thought were friends, only pretending
Just to make her happy
Though she is unhappy

Weak and worthless is what she’s told
In the dark corner she sits
Head low, body shaking from the cold
Her only option is to submit
Submit to those who cause harm
Pounding, pounding emitting from below, causing alarm"

I felt myself slowly calming down as I read the poem, though I still heard Nala tugging on her leash. Snapping my fingers, I pointed at my feet, Nik letting the leash go, causing her to trot over to me and lay down at my feet, a small smile forming on my lips.

"Loud voices of yelling, she hears
A strange sense of hope filling her body
Unknown to her, cutting through her like a set of shears
Help her, help her, somebody. Anybody
Her bedroom door slamming open,
At last, her chains may be broken

A light filling the open space
The frame of a shadow being seen
A frame of a man, no elegance nor grace
Eyes gazing the room, almost like a machine
His eyes soon landing on the broken girl in the corner
Eyes soft, no pity nor sympathy, it warmed her"

Looking back up, I saw that some of the students had tears in their eyes, a low breath emitting from me as I looked back down,

"A saviour at last, she thinks
Protectiveness filling the man
He didn't disappear as she blinks
She thinks of him as her Superman
Saving her from this madness
Finally, she thinks, no more sadness

Carrying her in his arms, so frail
Her protector, her savior
Her skin pale, he thinks, deathly pale
Not just anybody to him, not a neighbor
But all seems as a dream
No longer feeling the need to scream
