Pippa's POV

"Table nine needs their drinks, can you deliver them real quick for me?" Vivian asked. I nodded quickly and grabbed the tray of drinks from her. I didn't mind helping her out, she was practically ready to pop with her kid. She ran to the bathroom and I frowned. Stupid boss wouldn't even let her take a day off.

"Excuse me, miss?" A guy raised his hand at me while I was setting the drinks down. I walked over to his table when I finished and smiled.

"Yes?" I tried not to sound tired.

"What is better, the steak? Or the soup?" He asked.

"Um... I prefer the steak." I shrugged. "But that's just my personal opinion. They're both great." Lies. All lies! Everything tasted like terrible things here. But then again, I had been working here for too long...

"Thank you." He smiled. I nodded and walked away from the table. It wasn't my table or my section. I sighed and sat down for a second to catch my breath.

"Phillipa, you need to get back out there." My boss growled.

"Calm down. I'll get up. I just needed to sit for a second." I sighed while getting back up.

Finally closing time, Vivian and I counted the tips up and I sighed.

"You never make enough do you?" She frowned.

"I'm fine. I just need to find another job." I said while resting my head on the table.

"You're already working doubles everyday Pippa..." Vivian frowned. "Why not find a roommate? Have you thought of that?" She asked.

"I tried that. Never again." I laughed. "They were horrible. Never cleaned, and always broke things." I sighed. "I promise I'll figure this out." I said while taking my share of tips. I started gathering my things together and turned to leave, but came face to face with my boss.

"So you think you're just going to leave?" He laughed.

"Uh yeah, the place is closed. I don't get paid enough to clean up after your kitchen staff." I scoffed while pushing passed him.

"Go on a date with me." He laughed while grabbing my arm.

"Never." I said while yanking my arm away from him. What a creep. I didn't want to go on a date with anyone. I had to worry about my life before I could worry about anyone else's life too.

"Fine. Don't come in tomorrow then." He spat. I frowned and walked out. He always did this. I would lose an extra day a week just because I wouldn't go on a date with him. It was getting old real quick. I needed a new job and fast.

When I got to my apartment building, I saw a few people hanging out in the hallways. I smiled at them and continued my walk to my door.

"Hey neighbor." One of the guys smiled.

"Hey Lin." I sighed.

"How was work?" He asked.

"Terrible as usual." I said while unlocking my door. "Why is everyone hanging out here?" I asked.

"Air conditioning in the whole building is out. Gotta love these hot city summer nights." He winked. I rolled my eyes and walked into my apartment. I already felt sticky. He wasn't kidding when he said it was out. I opened all of my windows and turned on the lights. Hopefully it'll be fixed by morning... It was going to be too hot to sleep. At least I won't have to worry about going to work in the morning. There was a knock on my door that made me wonder why someone was here?

"Yes?" I opened the door slightly and saw Lin standing there. "Hey! What's up?" I smiled while undoing the lock on the door.

"Uh, I just realized that my ice maker decided to die... And I'm making an ice run did you need anything?" He asked.

"I actually have no idea... Come in and I'll check then probably go with you." I laughed. He took a step into my apartment and smiled. I checked my fridge and sighed. I did need a lot of things... maybe I could just buy things for just tomorrow...

"Your apartment is nice. Very simple." He laughed.

"Yeah, simple." I joked. Only because I can't afford literally anything anymore. "Let me change and I'll head out with you." I smiled.

Now I'll admit, Lin was pretty cute. He had it all though. He was a big shot on Broadway and was frequently flying in and out of state. He would have me watch his dog while he did that. I didn't mind watching his little pup. She was nice company.

"I'm ready." I said while walking out of my room.

"Alright, lets go." He smiled. We walked out of the building and back into the night life of New York. "So, you work as a...Hostess?" He asked.

"Waitress." I sighed. "It's not all that great." I shrugged. "You? Any new musicals?" I asked.

"I've been writing this new one, it's probably not going to sell, but I really have faith in it." He smiled. I nodded and continued walking with him.

"What's it about?" I asked.

"It's about Alexander Hamilton. You know, the guy on the ten dollar bill." He grinned. I nodded in understanding, trying to figure out why someone would make a musical about him.. "It's going to have rapping in it too. It's gonna be great." He laughed. "You can laugh it's alright."

"I think it'll do wonderful." I laughed.

"Really?" He asked.

"Yup. It sounds different. And from your past success. I think it'll be great." I smiled at him.
