A smell like heaven woke the girl up. Soft voice was to be heard in the back. The blonde slowly opened her eyes and blinked to get used to the bright light. She looked around and realized, she was lying on a sofa in a police station.
Her eyes followed the soft voices and the girl spotted the Sheriff and the brunette, she has already seen before. They both leaned, with their back to the girl, against the desk and chatted.
Quietly, she cuddled deeper into the warmth of the blanked thinking about the great sleep she just had. Not once in at least a decade had she slept on such a soft and comfortable surface. Not only that but she also didn't have to freeze. It was the first time in so long she actually felt well rested.
With a grumbling tummy, she realized, how hungry she actually was. And she wasn't the only one who noticed.
"Oh, you're awake. I hope you slept well", said a friendly feminine voice. She didn't know why, but somehow the voice calmed her.
Shyly, the blonde lifted her head and finally had the chance to look at the brunette. Her hair framed her face perfectly, on her deep red, full lips was an open and friendly smile and her big, deep brown eyes completed her beautiful features.
"Sounds like you are hungry", the woman smiled and pulled the girl out of her thoughts. A blush spread on her cheeks. The girl nodded and looked away.
Shortly after, the woman approached the blonde with a bowl of hot soup in her hand. She handed it over and the girl carefully took it. But as she burdened her left hand, the stinging pain made her shrug. She pulled the hand away and the woman standing above her watched her concerned.
With her right hand, she than took the bowl and placed it in her lap. Taking the first spoonful into her mouth, her taste buds exploded. It has been so long since she last had soup let alone warm food. She couldn't even remember.
As the blonde swallowed, a comforting warmth immediately spread through her whole body. It made her feel safe. and that was exactly what scared her.
Quickly, she repressed the thought and concentrated on eating the soup.
"Want more?", the brunette immediately asked as the girl finished her last spoonful. She nodded shyly and watched, as the woman made her way to a microwave, poured some soup into the bowl and confidently walked back to hand it over. Greedily, she ate all of it.
Swallowing the last spoon of soup, the blonde girl noticed the other two people who took two chairs and sat down in front of her. They were staring at her. Thankfully, the blonde nodded at them.
The brunette smiled back, stood up and took the bowl out of the girls hand. Immediately, she snuggled deeper into the blanked.
"Sooo... it would be very helpful if you could answer some of our questions", the man stuttered awkwardly.
"David!", the brunette hissed softly.
"Sorry, sometimes he is very impatient. His mouth is sometimes faster than his brain", she said louder, with a stern, provocative look towards the man.
Shortly, a small smiled formed on the blondes lips. It was amusing to watch two people talking so openly and mischievously to one another.
Their eyes focused on her again and the smiled disappeared. She didn't like to be looked at. Feeling exposed, she cuddled protectively into her blanked and hid behind her blonde locks.
After a few moments of silence, the brunette said:" I'm Regina and that's David. We already said that earlier but I know how fast things like this can be forgotten. Especially with so much going on"
The blondes gaze lingered on the blanked so the brunette continued. "Can you tell us your name?", she softly asked.
But the girls heart began to race again. Her breathing hitched and she furiously shook her head. If they knew her name, they could find out everything. Her home, her adopters, everything. It was just a matter of time until they did, but she couldn't go back there. She couldn't.
'Don't show them how weak you are!', her conscience told her over and over again as she blinked a few tears away.
The blonde man, David, sighted barely audible but the brunette, Regina, gave him an exhorting look. Then she looked back at the girl.
"You know what, David? Go home. I'll take care of her", she then said, looking back at David.
"Are you sure, Regina?"
"Yeah, it's not like you are helpful here"
David glared annoyed but with a relieved smile at her and stood up.
Patiently, Regina waited till the door closed behind David.
I never thought that translating a story could actually be more difficult than writing a new one. I feel like I just can't convey the feelings and the gramma right. I hoped I'll get used to it and be able to improve it somehow. Hope you like the story anyways. ☺💕
