A Not So Enjoyable Reminiscence
The following day I made sure I was up early and did my chores so that I could go to the hospital. When some of us left yesterday, Lana was still in surgery. I wanted to talk to her parents and apologize for what happened, but I couldn't. My feet wouldn't move from my seat and to hear Lana's mother cry made me anxious.
Once I was done with my errands and had lunch, Axel dropped me at the hospital. He worked today and offered me a ride since it was on his way. Since I barely knew the place and Ethan and Miranda were already there, Ethan came to get me by the parking lot. We silently stood in the elevator, and I'd glance at him a few times. Like myself, he looked exhausted from the past few days.
"Who else is here?" I asked as I leaned against the wall.
"Just Benny, Miranda, Liam, Nick and me. The rest visited earlier." He answered with a yawn.
"How is she?" I mumbled at the thought of Lana entered my mind.
"She was in surgery for a couple of hours." Ethan sighed with a frown. "Things aren't looking good."
"Well, where is she now?" I raised my voice because I had to see her.
"She's in ICU. They won't let us her; they said she needs the rest."
"Has she woken up after the surgery?"
"Not that I know of."
The doors opened, and we walked out before I questioned Ethan any further on Lana. I'd prefer yesterday when there were people in the hallway compared to now when there was barely anyone. I realized it was a different hall because of how long it was. It must've been the floor where Lana was on or close by.
I heard Ethan's Adidas squeak against the floor as he walked, my deep exhales and a beep when we'd passed a door which determined where a patient was. I glanced up and spotted Miranda at the desk as she spoke to the nurse.
Ethan and I stopped and waited until Miranda finished. Ethan offered me to sit down, but I shrugged since I wouldn't stay long because I only came to see Lana. When I looked at the seats, I noticed Benny in one of them. He wore his clothes from yesterday which meant that he didn't go home.
"Has he been here all night?" I asked Ethan as I tilted my head toward Benny. Ethan looked over my shoulder then gave a weary nod. Miranda strolled toward us and let out a big yawn.
"Hey, Blake." She smiled at me then looked at Benny. I muttered a response when I was shocked that she greeted me. I guess since there were bigger problems, it would've been unnecessary with our little feud.
"Ready to go?" Ethan asked Miranda.
"Yeah, I just asked the nurse where the bathrooms were. Even though I don't like using hospital toilets, I need to go." She said then walked off.
Eventually, Ethan and I sat down next to Benny. Ethan took out his phone while I stared at the wall opposite me. It was all I could do nowadays, stare and think of what would happen next. I turned to Benny who rested his head against the wall. He had that pink-eyed look as he stared up at the burning light, shoulders slouched and hair chaotic.
"When last did you sleep?" I asked. Benny slowly turned to me, and I think he finally took in my appearance as he blinked and straightened his posture.
