Her Jovial Manners
Blake
When I saw that sign, the sign that indicated that we reached home I woke up Lana. We wouldn't stop anytime soon though, only until we reached Minneapolis where our hotel was. At first, we would've stayed at a three-star hotel that fitted our budget but when Sheriff Willson allowed Lana to go, he called up his connections, and they got us into a lavish five-star hotel. Momma couldn't accept it, but he insisted because he wanted his daughter to have a good time after everything she's been through and before she started college. We didn't want to take advantage of it, so our rooms remained the same.
I didn't know how to feel about being home yet as we drove into the city, it wasn't as big as Chicago, so I'd easily remember my way around. I figured since we had two cars we'd go in separate directions often. When we passed the park, I reminisced about when we were kids and dad took us to a park, any park that had ice cream trucks. He'd spend the entire day with the whole lot of us. We'd sit on the green grass and play around him because he didn't like us to go far, especially in the city park where there were a lot of cars and people.
The front of the hotel already indicated how extravagant it was. A tall, smooth building with every window shined to keep up its reputation of being the classiest building on the block. Lana even straightened in her seat and freshened up before we got out. We parked at the entrance where four bellhops, stood ready to welcome us. We got out, and two took all our luggage while the other two said they'd drive our cars to the underground guest parking.
"Wow, this place is beautiful," Lana commented once we were inside. The lobby was huge with its crystal-clear marble floor, each section had a different design, but it flowed into one pattern, a grand staircase that probably led up to all the stories, suave wooden ceiling with beautiful chandeliers that held a hundred lightbulbs and a massive statue of a lion in the center of the room.
"It really is, alright I'll check us in...come on Axel," Momma said then walked to the long reception desk that had a lot of goodies displayed for guests. Tamia went off to find the bathroom while I helped Lana sit down after I took her crutches.
"Ugh, this is so comfortable after being on the road for so long." I sighed in relief as my butt sunk into the sofa. I drowned in pillows and wished to rest here all day under the vast chandelier where I saw my reflection. My eye faded into a dark bruise, and I remembered on one of our stops, the guy at the gas station laughed when he realized Lana gave me the blue eye.
"Do you know how far this hotel is from your house?" Lana asked while she continued to gaze around and take everything in. I shook my head to which she grinned and gave me a once-over before she spoke, "What about that Dmitri friend, of yours?"
"Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me," I smiled and reached into my pocket for my phone. "Dmitri said I should text him once we arrived."
