Seems Rather Incredulous

Blake

I knew Lana wouldn't have told us if she found out about Keene's situation. Keene didn't tell her anything because she didn't explain what the discussions on the vinyl were about. They went back and forth until Jaden got annoyed and asked Lana if she'd ever tell us. She flat out said no then asked Carter for a ride home. He told us he'd try to get her to crack, but I didn't think he'd get any luck.

When they left, Keene called Sheriff Willson, and he immediately wanted us at the station because they thought of a way to catch James Cornelius without Keene having to pay a cent. We arrived at the station, and it seemed packed than usual. Police officers walked in and out of the station; calls came in every minute which collided with the noise of a drunken man behind bars who yelled.

"Couldn't this wait until tomorrow?" Levi sighed as we walked into Sheriff Willson's office. Detective Kale stood confidently in front of a detailed whiteboard while Sheriff Willson walked to his desk and shook his head.

"Nope, I think we're running out of time because Marcus was spotted yesterday." Sheriff Willson said as my eyebrows rose. He seemed stressed as he dragged his hands down his face then banged his fists on the table. Detective Kale didn't even flinch while Levi startled.

"Where?" Levi asked, but I had an idea or two where he could've been.

"Yesterday where we all were, he was spotted in the area." Sheriff muttered then drew in a long breath as he closed his eyes. I've never seen him like that before as Lana's dad or the Sheriff...he always seemed optimistic.

"But he got away before any of us reached him." Detective Kale spoke up while Sheriff Willson recovered. "They reported that he wasn't even doing anything, just walking around."

"They are planning something, that's why we need to strike before they do." Sheriff Willson said as his eyes darted toward each of us. Keene, Jaden, Levi and I exchanged looks and since Keene's the main reason for this he stepped forward.

"What do you want us to do?" he asked as Detective Kale spun around and observed the whiteboard.

"Call James and say you have the money if he gives further instructions just follow." Sheriff Willson said as he rose to his feet then walked to the opposite end of the room and knocked on the glass.

Within minutes, the crew from the last time walked in and tried to track the number. Sheriff Willson said it didn't matter whether they got it or not because they had a plan which they still hadn't discussed with us.

"Really now, don't you know that we call you?" Marcus spoke up, and instantly, the room went silent. Levi, Jaden and I were told to sit on a sofa in the corner of the office while Keene hunched over his phone.

"Err...I-I have the money." He mumbled as Jaden snickered because of his stutter. Levi elbowed him while others glared yet Marcus continued.

"Of course, you do, and we said, wait for a call." Marcus hissed as Keene hopelessly looked at Sheriff Willson for help who motioned with his hand to keep going.

"Hey, tell that f*cking bloke we'll call him back!" someone yelled in the background as everyone in the office exchanged looks. It couldn't have been James because that was an English accent.

"Shut the f*ck up." Marcus's voice was distant which meant that he scolded the person in the background. He let out a deep sigh then cleared his throat.
