Ameliorate the Relationship

His gaze burned the side of my face as I stared at the floor. I didn't know why we're here but ever since they found out evidence's been stolen, they've questioned random people. Deputy Paul sat at his desk with Keene and I opposite him. Detective Kale interrogated Levi, and I'm nervous if he wanted to question me. Even though I didn't like him, I'm concerned about Liam, Benny and Nick because I saw them down at the morgue. Not to mention, Ethan, Miranda and I were down there too.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when Keene knocked his knee against mine. I turned to him with my eyes squinted to which he showed me a message on his screen. As I read the message, my eyes widened because it was from Ethan.

Lana's awake but since she woke up before visiting times ended we'd only get the chance to see her tomorrow. A sigh of relief escaped my lips because what Ethan sent after that meant that she'd be okay.

"We can visit her tomorrow." Keene said as he smiled at his phone. I nodded in agreement then turned to the interrogation door that opened. Detective Kale and Levi walked out as I rose to my feet because I knew I'd be next.

Deputy Paul stood up from his desk and looked at the Detective. That look must've meant something as Kale walked toward him. Thus, I turned to Keene who told Levi about Lana.

"Ha, ha!" Levi cheered then wrapped his arm around Keene's neck and grinded his knuckles against his head. "I told you she was a fighter!"

Keene grumbled and pushed Levi away as he laughed. He turned to me with his eyebrows raised and smile plastered on his face. I gave a curt nod because I knew Lana was strong. Even though our last encounters weren't the greatest, I was excited to see her. To look into those eyes and receive the same feeling, all over again.

"Thank you, boys, that'd be all." Deputy Paul spoke up as we turned to him. I raised a brow and shifted my gaze to Detective Kale who went through files.

"What?"

"Since we've just received news that Lana Willson is awake, we can question her which would fill in the gaps." Detective Kale said, and I noticed how he didn't even remove his gaze from the various pages he flipped through.

"Sheriff Willson won't let you until Lana's fully recovered," Keene stated with his arms folded. That seemed to spark up the Detective's interest as he slammed the file on the desk then approached Keene.

"I'm just doing my job because James Cornelius could kill someone else yet all of that could be prevented if we just get some damn answers

"I'm just doing my job because James Cornelius could kill someone else yet all of that could be prevented if we just get some damn answers." Detective Kale hissed as he eyed Keene.

"And I've heard of you Stoner and your history with James," Kale said then shoved his index finger against Keene's chest. "Don't make me use you as bait because I won't hesitate."
