The One Endeavor

Lana

She was perfect. Her high cheekbones that kept up her glistening smile and arched eyebrows she'd often raise to display her authority. She was a bit taller than me, or maybe I slouched more with my crutches because of how small I felt compared to her. While I wore an oversized Nirvana shirt, faded jean shorts and Doc. Martens, she dressed in a white sundress with roses and whiter sneakers. I was envious of her long curvy legs because mine looked like it's been through world war two. Don't even get me started on her flawless skin while mine had faded memorable scars. However, the part that made me flinch the most was the way she introduced herself to me, as Blake Gunner's ex-girlfriend.

"So, yeah that's the last time I saw Bla—oops, I've been blabbing so much that I didn't even get your name!"

"Lana Willson, nice to meet you," I mumbled with a twitch of my lips. When she blinked her brows slightly furrowed and smile dropped. I made no effort to hid my suspicions as I raised my eyebrow and stared into her cognac-brown eyes.

"Hey, look who I found." Dmitri's voice broke our gazes, and we turned to see that he approached us with Blake right beside him. Blake's supposed ex-girlfriend flinched once they made eye contact. Almost as if she was stunned at his appearance. Her eyes wandered as he drew closer and lingered longer on his tattooed arms.

"Ursula, what are you doing here?" Blake asked and once he stopped in front of us and barely looked at her when he turned to me and gave me a once-over. So, that's what her name was.

"I wanted to see you, Blake." Ursula smiled and eyed him up and down, once again.

"Well, here's not the best place...or time," Blake grumbled as his jaw tightened and he finally decided to make eye contact with Ursula. When he did though, his facial features softened.

"I know but I really just wanna' talk to you." She begged with her hands clasped together then glanced at Dmitri and me, "Alone."

"I trust Dmitri and Lana, besides whatever you have to say, will be said in front of them."

"Oh, erm...well, I miss you, and at the time, I didn't quite understand what your family was going through."

"My dad was dying, what was there not to understand?" even though his voice remained monotone, I heard the demand and pain in his voice

"My dad was dying, what was there not to understand?" even though his voice remained monotone, I heard the demand and pain in his voice. As I looked at Ursula who seemed speechless and Blake who refrained from any emotion, I wondered what and how much pain that girl caused him back then. "You were always cooped up in your own f*cking perfect world and thought I'd be too, for your benefit, but not everything's about you, Ursula."

"Were. I've changed Blake, I really have...after you left, I finally felt what you went through and what I couldn't help with. Loneliness. I'd give anything to go back and change things. Even ask Dmitri! I've changed, right?"
