Many Conjectures Made At The Diner
Blake
The one thing that hadn't changed and I'm sure as hell wouldn't be, was the diner. The checkered tiles, glossier than ever when I stepped in and took in the smell of strawberry milkshake and fried onion rings. The first person I recognized wasn't the guys but Liam Sanchez.
He stood behind the front counter and packed a takeaway bag. His hair neatly brushed to one side while he nibbled on his lip stud. Liam raised his head, and I thought he'd turn but he looked across the diner. I followed his gaze where everyone sat. I'm not surprised if his attention were on Miranda who was also here along with Jennifer.
I told momma I made plans already before she made dinner for four people. The day wasn't entirely bad. We took Griffon to his appointment, where Axel and I waited outside in the waiting room while momma went inside. Afterward, we settled on a café since it reached past noon.
At first, the conversation seemed forced since they all asked such fundamental questions as if I was the newbie. We spoke about the regular. College, Minnesota, studies, and Thanksgiving tomorrow. Everything went well until Griffon asked about Ursula. I kept my answers brief because it infuriated me that Axel or momma told him about her. They noticed it mid-conversation and tried to change the subject. The rest of the afternoon we parted our ways in the house until dinner came along and I excused myself.
Hence, making my way toward my friends. Carter was already here and sat between Aidan and Levi. He spoke excitedly with a broad grin about something to do with college. It lured everyone into his story as they stared at him and nodded once in a while. I brought up a chair from another table, and it scraped against the tiles. Carter stopped and turned. Everyone followed, and their expressions changed to utter delight.
"Hey, cuzz!" Aidan beamed and stepped out of the booth. I wanted to sit down, but Aidan swung his arms around my neck and moved from side to side.
"Hey everyone." I greeted with a smile and sat once Aidan did. Miranda and Jennifer greeted me with casual hellos when I hand shook with Carter. He returned to his story, and suddenly everyone has hypnotized again.
Keene, who sat with Miranda and Jennifer explained that Carter was telling them about his first few days at Yale and how lost he'd get because the campus was enormous. I caught on and listened to how he felt so different compared to Chad. He told us about his first campus party and how he made out with a girl who he later realized was in one of his lectures, hence why she eyed him the entire night. Not once did Carter mention Lana. Levi asked about her, but he cut off when the waitress approached us.
We all took burgers, fries with a side of onion rings. Miranda and Jennifer shared their meal because they came back from the cinema. I noticed how close they sat next to each other and how they mumbled a conversation, maybe because they were the only girls here. After Carter finished, he asked everyone else how they were going.
