Her Heart Palpitate Rapidly

The silence seemed to go on forever as we all looked at Keene. He remained on the spot and still hadn't removed his gaze from the phone. I glanced at Levi who slowly crushed his cigarette in the ashtray and watched the remains on the smoke disappear into the air while Jaden looked around the room as if he didn't know what to do.

"So, you got the money?" Levi asked as he left the ashtray and took Keene's phone from the table.

"F*ck no, I don't have the money." Keene hissed then ran his palms over his face. "I bet you if he calls again, it'll be double the amount I owe him because it's almost been a year."

"I can lend you some cash man, don't worry," Jaden suggested as he whipped out his phone. I turned to Keene who already paced the room with his head in his hands. He froze then raised his hand at Jaden.

"Thanks, Jaden but I'm not gonna' pay James the ridiculous amount I owe him," Keene stated to which Jaden's eyes widened.

"Nu-uh, you gotta pay...you'd think you know by now what he does to people." Jaden scoffed then went on about how he'd gladly help Keene.

"No, I've spoken to Sheriff Willson and Detective Kale about this before, and they said I shouldn't pay because, at the time, James never called me out on it," Keene explained while Jaden peered at him because he still wasn't convinced. "They said if anything happens, I shouldn't do anything without calling them first."

"Alright, let's call because I don't want Marcus or whoever the f*ck shows up, to disturb me in my sleep otherwise I'm going to Bobby's house for the night," Levi stated and tapped on Keene's phone, but Keene rushed toward him and quickly snatched the phone away.

"No, just calm everybody!" he exclaimed as I raised a brow.

"Dude, you're the one who's freaking out here." I pointed out to which he rolled his eyes.

"Yes, because this is my fault, and I appreciate your help, but I'll figure this out

"Yes, because this is my fault, and I appreciate your help, but I'll figure this out." He said then took a quick glance at his phone. "It's too late now anyway to go out so I'll head to the station first thing tomorrow morning."

"Sounds like a plan, Gunner and I will stay the night and take over the sofas before Radcliff over here runs off to mommy and daddy." Jaden laughed as Levi tossed an empty can of beer at him.

"Cool, then we'll all go tomorrow, the more, the merrier." I sarcastically said as Keene forced a smile. He turned on his heel to the direction of the hallway but stopped before he left the room.

"Oh, and since Lana's going through her sessions and is pretty stressed out on all of it, I don't want her knowing any of this, okay?" Keene looked at each of us to which we nodded simultaneously.
