Shawn's POV:

I walk up onto the stage and see that Y/n has returned back to her friends, right near the front. It gives me a little comfort seeing her and knowing she believes in me. She catches my eyes and gives me the beautiful smile I love. I take a deep breath and tap the mic.

"Hey guys! How's it going?" I strum a few chords to get in the zone and warm my fingers up. I squint at the stage lights and try to find Y/n's face again. "This song I'm gonna sing is one of my own called 'Imagination' and it's dedicated for a special someone. I hope she feels the same way too."

He closes his eyes and starts singing like an angel. The words that pour out of his mouth seem familiar, like he's longing for someone. My heart jumps a little at a thought. Could it be me? No, there's someone else for him who's better and prettier than me.

Shawn finishes singing and opens his eyes which rest on me at the end. He thanks the audience and I join in with the applause. People start to separate for the interval before the next act, but I stay positioned on the floor, not moving at all. I realise I look stupid staring into space so I head towards the food stall.

"Y/n!"

I turn around and see Shawn standing infront of me. I give him a quick hug. "You were awesome! See, everyone loved that song. We were all swaying and listening to the lyrics-"

He takes my hand in his and pulls me close towards him. "There's something I've been wanting to tell you for a long time Y/n," he says.

He pulls me by his side and we exit the building. It's dark outside and we take a short walk to the lake. We sit down side by side on a wooden bench on a small hill that overlooks the lake.

"Do you remember this place?" Shawn asks me.

I smile as I take a trip down memory lane. "Of course I do. It's when we were 5 and I was feeding the ducks-"

"-and I threw a tantrum at you for stealing all the ducks away from me," he finishes as he laughs. "That was the day we first met, right before kindergarten started the week after or something."

I sigh and remember the Lego bricks I used to chuck at Shawn in the classrooms, or the many times we'd pretend to be "hubby and wifey" and make our friends giggle.

He looks at me. "I love this place for that reason. The day we met, I didn't know we'd be in each other's lives for so long, or how much you mean to me-"

"-maybe because we were just 5-year-olds?" I cut in.

He chuckles and slowly reaches forward with his hand, tucking strands of behind my ear before stroking my cheek with his thumb. My heart races a little. Is the moment? Is he going to do what I think he is?

"Listen Y/n. I know this might be a little weird, but since I started to understand things about girls, feelings and stuff, it's never been the same with other girls. Every time I look at you in the hallways, and when we're at home or just hanging out, I feel like I have everything and my life is complete. Maybe it's just stupid old me imagining things that can never happen, but I'd love to have a life where you'll be in it for the rest of time, and so I was wondering if you'd be-"

Before Shawn can say anymore, I lean forward and cup his face gently. My lips find his and I fall into a world of euphoria. I pull away from him and he rests his forehead on mine, his beautiful face filled with relief and joy as his lips spread into a smile.

"Mine," he finally whispers.
