What it takes - Part 6

Imagine:
There's silence during dinner except the sound of knives and forks scraping plates. They all look so tired and rough.

I steal a look at Y/n and she meets my eyes before looking down at her plate, smirking a little.

"Y/n, I'm hoping you and Shawn will be able to join us in tomorrow's session?"

We both look at each other quickly before nodding our heads. Mr Williams smiles and wipes his mouth with a napkin. "Good good, these guys had an awesome time, right?"

They all squirm in their seats and mumble "yes". I bite my lip to stop myself from laughing.

"How was your day Shawnie boy?" Cam asks whilst smirking. "We'd all love to hear how your day went."

I freeze as everyone's eyes land on me. My face starts to heat up. I shakily grab my glass of water and sip it. I shrug. "Uh, yeah, it was alright. We... we did some stuff."

Y/n nudges me under the table as everyone laughs and goes "oooooh" at us.

My face is burning now, and I see Y/n hiding her face too.

"Now now, calm down. Tomorrow, I've planned for us all to go trekking..."

Mr Williams drones on about tomorrow's plans and I zone out, thinking about how perfect the day was today when it was just me and Y/n.

I laugh and wave the other guys off as I step into my bedroom and lock the door.

"Do you wanna sleep with me tonight?"

Did I hear that right? "Um, what Y/n?"

"N-nothing," she says whilst blushing. "I just wondered if you wanted to... to sleep with me tonight. I don't know, it's okay if you don't."

I laugh. "Sure I would."

She smiles and hugs herself. "But I don't think I'll sleep. I researched this place before we came here, and I read somewhere there's supposed to be a meteor shower, one that we might be able to see. And from your bed, we can see the sky through the window if we keep the curtains open and lights off."

Stargazing with the girl I like? I can't resist.

We move my bed closer to the window and attach Y/n's bed next to it. I turn the lights out and join Y/n. We huddle close together under some covers and gaze out of the window.

Y/n squeals beside me all of a sudden.

"What is it?" I ask, concerned.

"Oops, sorry to scare you. I saw one! A meteor! Did you see it?"

I nod my head and laugh. Y/n leans her head against my shoulder, but then jerks upright again as she sees something flash in the sky.

I laugh.

"Sorry," she mumbles and hugs her knees tight.

"Hey, stop apologising for being you, for being happy."

"I guess old habits die hard."

"I don't think it's just a habit," I say.

There's silence. "Will you be yourself again at school?"

I hear a sigh. "I don't know..."

I look at the sky and so many questions come to my mind about life, Y/n and well, everything. I see a very bright and large streak and nudge Y/n.

"Hey! Did you see that one? Y/n?"

I look to my side and see that she's resting against her pillow as I hear soft snores. I re-arrange the blankets and covers as I tuck Y/n to bed. She turns around and curls up a little, a hot water bottle tucked neatly at her side. I get into bed and watch over Y/n sleeping.

She turns around to face me, her eyes half open.

"Will you be happier at school now? After today?"

She yawns. "If it means being with you more often, yes."

I play those words over and over in my head and promise myself to always be there for Y/n in order to make her happy and to one day make her mine.
