This date is perfect for our 6 month anniversary. We sit down close to the band playing classical music whilst everyone is chatting and dining.
"You look stunning," Shawn says in my ear as he helps me into my chair.
I smile and feel myself blushing. "And I imagine you do too."
I sigh and look down, feeling the satin tablecloth beneath my fingers.
"Shall I order for us?" Shawn asks me.
I nod my head and listen close to the music, the violins and piano setting a romantic mood.
"What are you thinking about?"
"Nothing. The music is beautiful don't you think? And the table-"
He chuckles. "I agree. I thought we could go somewhere quite classy for our special anniversary. And I have to say, you look the part too in your silver dress."
I bite my lip. "You think so?"
"I know it. People were watching us as we made our way to our seats."
I hear someone come by and greet us. "What would you like to order?"
"I think we'll take it slow. How about just champagne and butternut squash soup for now?" Shawn asks.
"Sounds good," I tell him.
The waiter scribbles something down and walks away before promptly returning with a trolley. Two glasses are set out and a bottle is popped open as it rattles out of the ice bucket.
"Would you like ice with yours madam?"
I follow the voice and smile. "Yes please."
There's a clink against the glass as each ice cube is dropped and I hear them crack as the champagne is poured.
"Thank you so much."
"My pleasure."
Shawn thanks the waiter for his drink before he disappears off.
"Can I say something?"
Shawn laughs. "You don't have to ask."
"I get the feeling I'm on Titanic. Is that weird? You know, because of the music, how we're dressed..."
I smell something sweet as it stops at our table.
"Two butternut squash soups." It's the voice of the waiter. "This is also a selection of our handmade breadsticks. Enjoy Sir and Madam."
I find the napkin and drape it over my lap.
I take a soup spoon and gently blow over it. I sip and my mouth is filled with warm, sweet goodness. It reminds me of Fall and Thanksgiving.
"Do you like it?" Shawn asks.
"I do. Reminds me of Fall somehow. And Mom's pumpkin pie."
We finish our soup and order the mains. I feel the noise around us becoming more quiet as the night goes on and people start to leave.
"We're one of the last people here," Shawn tells me as we eat our dessert.
"That's good."
"No, because there's less people here to admire your beauty."
I groan. "Shawn-"
"It's true. I'm forever grateful for finding someone like you."
I watch her blush as she finishes the last of her chocolate mousse. I take her hand and I rub the back of it with my thumb. I take out a small pouch from my pocket with my free hand and place it inside hers.
"Here, I bought you a little something for our 6 months."
"Shawn, you didn't have to. I said I wanted nothing."
I laugh. "And you think I was going to come here empty handed. Here, I'll put it on for you."
I get up and take out a delicate necklace from the pouch and place it around Y/n's neck. I laugh as she shivers slightly from the cool silver chain.
"There we go. Feel the necklace."
She slides her fingers across the chain until it touches the small heart hanging from the chain.
"What does it say?" I ask
She gasps and tears start to roll down her eyes. "It says 'I love you'. Oh Shawn."
I kneel down and hug Y/n close to me and rock her gently in my arms. I wipe the tears from her eyes and try not to cry myself. "I know you never believe me when I say it, even though you know it. So I had it written out in braille, and whenever you touch the necklace, you can feel it. So it's real. Our love is real."
I kiss her softly on the lips and hug her again. I pay for our meal and drape my suit jacket over Y/n's shoulders. I help Y/n up.
"I love you Y/n."
"I love you too Shawn."
She extends out her white cane and we make our way to the door to go home.
