Let's start with the prologue:
A prologue is an introductory section to a literary work. Its purpose is to introduce themes and characters that will appear later in the main body of the text and to provide necessary background material for understanding the story. (k12reader.com)
It may/should include the ff:
1. Giving background information about the story.
2. Grabbing readers' attention with a scene from the story.
3. Describing a scene from the past that is important to the story, which is the motivation for the action in the novel.
4. Giving information from a different point of view.
5. Expressing a different point in time.
The prologue of the story contributed a good taste to the main course. It revealed significant and relevant flavors to the plot. Nabusog ako sa lungkot, awa, inis at galit sa putaheng hinain mo sa amin. Haha! All I want to say is that the prologue was served in a perfect dish of distress.
To be honest, sobrang na-hook ako. It was full of emotions, a right timing to feel the character's pain from the very start. Pumasok agad ako sa kanyang mundo na punong-puno ng kalungkutan at misteryo. Simula pa lang ito, pero nadala na ako sa sitwasyon. The heavy pain carrying by the protagonist pulled out my deep sentiment. You maintained a good pace at a high level of interest. You also supplied information that will work to understand some part of the story.
Pinaglaanan ng tamang panahon at pag-iisip ang prologue. From the start up to the very end, I was like "What happened? Bakit naka-high siya?", "Drugs?", "No way! Dapat parusahan si Jake! Nakakainis siya!" But deep down the story plot, there is something we need to understand.
However, I noticed one thing, the use of ellipsis.
The ellipsis is used primarily to indicate the omission of words in the middle of a quoted sentence or the omission of sentences within a quoted paragraph. In creative writing, the ellipsis functions to indicate that the speaker has trailed off and left a sentence or thought unfinished. (writingforward.com)
1. Omission of words.
2. Faltering or Interrupted Speech – ginagamit ko rin ang ellipsis kadalasan para dito at sa pause.
Ex: "Well, I . . . uh . . . don't know," she said.
3. Pauses - We can also use an ellipsis to indicate a pause in dialogue, narrative or unfinished thought. At the end of a sentence, an ellipsis represents trailing off into silence.
